Description
式中、θiは入射角であり、n1及びn2はそれぞれ、第1及び第2の層の屈折率である。
広くは、特定の角度成分又は角度分布を有する光が、臨界角θcを超える1つ以上の角度で境界面に入射する場合に、全内部反射が起きる。
光学物品及びデバイスは感知/検出装置で使用されてもよく、センサは、粘弾性層から放出される光を受光するように配置される。光源がセンサ/検出器で置き換えられた感知/検出装置もまた開示される。センサ/検出器は、光検知器、シリコンフォトダイオード、IR検出器、太陽電池、若しくは光電子デバイス、又はこれらのいくつかの組み合わせであり得る。
(実施例1)
0.05部のポリアミン−1と、39.00部のトルエンと、21.00部の2−プロパノールを有するガラス製反応器の中に、14.86部のPDMSジアミン−1を置いて、エラストマーを有するシリコーン尿素PSAを調製した。この溶液に0.23部のH12MDIを添加した。この混合物を室温で2時間撹拌したところ、粘稠になった。これに25.00部のMQ樹脂−1を添加した。得られたシリコーン尿素PSAは、PDMSジアミン−1/ポリアミン−1/H12MDIをモル比1/1/2で含有し、50重量%のMQ樹脂−1と配合された。
シリコーン尿素PSA層の1つを多層ポリマーミラーフィルム(3M Co.のVikuiti(商標)ESR)で置き換えたこと除き、実施例1に記載の通りに積層体を調製した。LED光源を、LEDが積層体の幅に対してほぼ垂直かつ長さに対して平行になるように、積層体の10.2×10.2cm(4×4インチ)試料のアクリル系PSA層の縁部に圧入した。LEDを作動させた。光はアクリル系PSA層を通って伝搬し、LEDがこの層と接触している縁部の反対側の縁部に沿って1枚の紙を保持することによって、光が層を出射するのが観察された。光は他のどの方向にも層を出射しないように思われた。
微細構造化された特徴部を有するアクリル系の抽出フィルムを得た。このフィルムは、参照により本明細書に組み込まれる米国特許出願第2005/0052750 A1号(King et al.)により詳細に記載されている。アクリル系の抽出フィルムの一方の主表面は鋸歯状の又はピラミッド形の角柱状特徴部を備えていた。フィルムの反対側の主表面は円筒状レンズを備えていた。アクリル系の抽出フィルムの屈折率は約1.52〜約1.56であった。
比較例
2枚のPETライナー(それぞれ厚さ50μm)の間に配置された光学的に透明なアクリル系PSA(厚さ175μm)を含む転写テープ(3M Companyの3M(商標)光学的に透明な積層式接着剤8187)を使用した。光学的に透明なアクリル系PSA層の屈折率は1.47であった。2層の8187 PSA(全厚350μm)を用いて2つのガラススライドを互いに積層して積層体を調製した。ガラススライドは75×38×1mmであり、Esco Products Inc.のNo.2956であった。
ハンドローラを使用してシリコーン尿素PSA層を8187 PSA層に積層した。テープのライナーを除去し、第2のシリコーン尿素PSA層を8187 PSA層の新たに露出した側に積層した。シリコーン尿素PSA層の上のPET剥離ライナーを除去した。3層のPSAを用いて上記の2枚のガラススライドを互いに積層して積層体を調製した。
2枚のPETライナー(それぞれ厚さ50μm)の間に配置された光学的に透明なアクリル系PSA(厚さ50μm)を含む転写テープ(3M Companyの3M(商標)光学的に透明な積層式接着剤8142)を使用した。アクリル系の8142 PSA層の屈折率は1.47であった。
2枚のPETライナー(それぞれ厚さ50μm)の間に配置された光学的に透明なアクリル系PSA(厚さ25μm)を含む転写テープ(3M Companyの3M(商標)光学的に透明な積層式接着剤8141)を使用した。アクリル系の8142 PSA層の屈折率は1.47であった。
(実施例6)
呼び厚さ1mmと、Abbe屈折計で測定した場合の屈折率1.473とを有する透明なアクリル系PSAを含む3片のテープ(3M CompanyのVHB(商標)アクリル系テープ4910F)から3層積層体を調製した。ハンドローラを使用して3層積層体を調製した。次に、シートがフロントライト方式となるように、この3層積層体を、3M(商標)Companyの3M(商標)Diamond Grade(商標)反射シートのフェース面(観察者側)(面積10.2cm(4”)×20.3cm(8”))に積層した。側面放射LEDを一方の末端部から中心のPSAに圧入すると、光は3層積層体の全20.3cm(8インチ)を容易に通過し、光が出射するのを目で見ることが可能であった。光はまた、光源に対して垂直にシートの白い六角形の封止パターンに沿って抽出された。
呼び厚さ1mmと、Abbe屈折計で測定した場合の屈折率1.473とを有する透明なアクリル系PSAを含む3片のテープ(3M CompanyのVHB(商標)アクリル系テープ4910F)から3層積層体を調製した。ハンドローラを使用して3層積層体を調製した。93/7(w/w)のアクリル酸イソオクチル/アクリルアミド溶剤型接着剤に、約18マイクロメートルの平均直径を有する2及び10pphの中空ガラス小球(Potters Industries Inc.のSPHERICEL等級60P18)を充填し、13マイクロメートル(0.5ミル)の乾燥厚さにコーティングした。2pphの中空ガラス小球が手で広げて充填されたPSAを、幅7.6cm(3インチ)のストリップに切断した。これらのストリップを実施例2に記載のポリマーミラーフィルムに積層し、その結果正方形が形成された。10pphの中空ガラス小球が手で広げて充填されたPSAを、この正方形を塗りつぶすように積層した。
85/14/1重量のイソオクチルアクリレート/アクリル酸イソボルニル/アクリル酸と、0.08重量%の1−6−ヘキサンジオールジアクリレートと、0.20重量%のIRGACURE 651(Ciba Specialty)とを含む接着剤を、ノッチバーナイフコーターを使用して、実施例2に記載のようなポリマーミラーフィルムの上にコーティングした。接着剤を、一方に湿潤厚さ1250μm(50ミル)で、他方に1000μm(40ミル)でコーティングして、わずかに楔形状とした。接着剤コーティングをシリコーン剥離ライナー(CP Films T10 50.8マイクロメートル(2.0ミル)ポリエステル剥離ライナー)で覆い、低強度のUVランプを使用して15分間硬化した。接着剤はAbbe屈折計で測定した場合に屈折率1.474を有していた。次に、半透明のグラフィックフィルムを接着層のポリマーミラーフィルム(面積20.3cm(8”)×25.4cm(10”))が配置されている側とは反対側に積層した。側面放射LED回路を硬化したPSA層に圧入すると、光はPSAの長さの全25.4cm(10インチ)を容易に通過し、光が出射するのを目で見ることが可能であった。光はまた、光源に対して垂直に半透明のグラフィックの中に抽出された。
(実施例9)
携帯電話のキーパッドに光を抽出するように設計された可撓性アクリル系の光ガイド(厚さ0.5mm)を得た。光ガイドの材料は米国特許出願第2007/0191506 A1号(Rajan)に記載されており、メタクリレート官能化アクリレートオリゴマーとポリアルキレングリコールジメタクリレートとを含んでいた。実施例1に記載のシリコーン尿素PSA層を、可撓性アクリル系光ガイドの材料の上面及び底面の両方に手で積層した。簡易な側面放射LED光を光ガイドに入射させると、光は抽出パターンに沿ってシリコーンPSAのクラッディングを通って抽出された。光はクラッディングと光ガイドとの間に導かれ、意図された抽出点以外の点ではクラッディングを通って漏出しなかった。
(実施例10)
90/10のイソオクチルアクリレート/アクリル酸、0.3重量%のヘキサンジオールジアクリレート、及び0.2重量%のIRGACURE 651光開始剤(Ciba Specialty)と配合された接着剤組成物を、22.9cm(9インチ)離間して(両面接着剤で)取り付けられた2つのリボン状の側面放射発光ダイオード(LED)を有するミラーフィルム上にコーティングした。ノッチバーナイフコーターを使用して接着剤組成物をコーティングし、シリコーン剥離ライナー(CP Films T10 50.8マイクロメートル(2.0ミル)ポリエステル剥離ライナー)で接着剤組成物を覆った。接着剤組成物を低強度のUVランプを使用して15分間硬化した。接着剤組成物を湿潤厚さ1778マイクロメートル(70ミル)でコーティングし、LEDリボンを完全に封入した。接着剤は屈折率1.474を有していた(Abbe屈折計で測定)。LEDに電力を供給することができるように接着剤を接着点でリボンから除去した。透明な127マイクロメートル(5ミル)のPETにドット印刷された抽出パターンを有する抽出層を、埋め込まれたLEDリボンを有する光ガイド(面積22.9cm(9”)×22.9cm(9”))に積層した。次に、白色PETフィルムの拡散層を抽出層の上に設置し、最後にこの上にビニルグラフィックフィルムを設置した(ビニルフィルムに印刷された画像)。封入された側面放射LEDに電力を供給すると、光はPSAの長さの全22.9cm(9インチ)を容易に通過し、光が抽出パターンを介してビニルグラフィックフィルムを通って出射するのを目で見ることが可能であった。

Claims (3)
- 光源と、光ガイド及び該光ガイドの上に配置された粘弾性クラッディング層を含む光学物品と、を備える光学デバイスであって、前記光源から放出される光が前記光ガイドに入射し、かつ全内部反射によって該光ガイド内を運ばれ、前記粘弾性クラッディング層は、光学的に透明な感圧性接着剤を含み、光ガイドの屈折率が粘弾性クラッディング層の屈折率を少なくとも0.2超過している、光学デバイス。
- 前記光ガイドと前記粘弾性クラッディング層との間に形成される境界面が、前記光ガイド内を運ばれる光を抽出するために配向される複数の特徴部を備える、請求項1に記載の光学デバイス。
- 前記粘弾性クラッディング層が、異なる屈折率を有する第1の領域と第2の領域とを含み、前記光ガイドに入射する光の少なくとも50%が第1の領域の中に抽出される、請求項1に記載の光学デバイス。
