Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 〔産業上の利用分野〕 本発明は、各種のビジネスオフィス装備或いは機器と確
実に、且つ、一様に通信し、それらを制御する方法及び
装置に関するものである。ビジネス装備の種類としては
、複写機、ファクシミリ及び（或いは）プリンタ等であ
る。
〔従来の技術〕
複写機、ファクシミリ或いはプリンタのようなビジネス
オフィス機器の創作は、一定の時間内で完成させなけれ
ばならない各種グループの人々に割り当てられた活動を
必要とする。その上、それらの装置が一旦顧客に届くと
、それは現場のサービス・グループの人々によって補修
維持されなければならない。従って、異なったグループ
の人々が共に働いてその製品を開発し、補修維持してい
る。
マイクロプロセッサをビジネス機器に使用する最近の傾
向はそれらの機器の性能を高めた。例えば、高速複写機
は一般にマイクロプロセッサによって制御される多くの
ボタン及びデイスプレィからなる操作パネルを含み、種
々のタスクを実行する１個以上のマイクロプロセッサを
装備している。
Ｃ発明か解決しようとする課題〕 しかしながら、マイクロプロセッサの使用の増加に伴い
、ソフトウェア技術者の不足が深刻になっている。Ｆａ
ｔｈｉ　ａｎｄ　Ａｒｍｓｔｒｏｒｎｇ　（１９８５年
）はハードウェアとソフトウェア間の開発コスト比は１
：５．３であることを示している。特に複写機のような
独立型の装置を開発する最近の慣用手段は異なるモデル
間でのソフトウェアの再利用性を無視する傾向がある。
例えば、複写機の操作パネルは主制御装置のソフトウェ
アを開発する技術者によってプログラムを作成される。
そのフットウェアは特定のモデルと密接に結びついて、
一般に他の複写機モデルに使用することはできない。こ
の傾向が変わらない限り、異なるグループによる各種の
モデルの開発は容易に完成できない。更に、ソフトウェ
ア技術者の不足は、製品の開発及び改良の数を制限する
傾向にある。
上記の如き問題点は、モデル及び製品間の装置の各種モ
ジュールを通信及び制御する手段及び対応する方法を提
供することによって解決できると共に、製品の開発サイ
クルを短くすることができる。これらによって、幾つか
のグループに対し開発せんとする目標装置を待つのでは
なくて現在の装置を使用してモジュールの開発を開始さ
せることができる。加えて、現場のサービス組織は各種
の製品に対する異なったシステムを持つのではなく、１
つの知的システムに対する診断及びメンテナンス行為を
維持することができる。
従って、本発明の目的は、単数或いは複数の外部装置を
目標装置の状態にアクセスさせ、該目標装置と通信し、
該目標装置を制御する改善された手段及び方法を提供す
ることである。
〔課題を解決するための手段〕 本発明は、上記の目的を達成するために、ファクシミリ
書類、書類のフォトコピー或いは印刷書類を各々提供す
るファクシミリ、複写機或いはプリンタのようなビジネ
ス機器と、操作パネルと通信する通信処理手段を含む前
記機器と通信する通信処理手段を含み、前記機器の機械
的操作を制御する操作パネルと、前記機器の寿命の間変
わらないモデル番号、シリアル番号、モデル特性等の前
記機器の特性を示す静的状態データを記憶する手段と、
前記機器の寿命の間めったに変わらないＲＯＭバージョ
ン、オプション構成等の半静的状態データを記憶する手
段と、前記機器の機械的状態によって変わる動的状態デ
ータを記憶する手段と、前記機器の状態を監視する監視
処理手段と、前記機器のシステム全体の動作を制御する
システム制御処理手段とから構成されているファクシミ
リ、複写機或いはプリンタのようなビジネスオフィス機
器を制御し、ビジネスオフィス機器と通信する装置を提
供するものである。
また、前記操作パネルが、前記機器へ使用者の特定制御
機能を入力する入力処理手段と、該入力処理手段からの
入力を表示する表示処理手段と、前記操作パネルの操作
を制御するシステム制御処理手段とから構成されている
ことが望ましい。
また、前記機器と通信する診断通信プロセッサと、前記
機器から受け取った診断データを記憶及び蓄積するデー
タ・ベース手段を含み、前記機器へ診断結果を提供する
診断処理手段とを含み、前記機器の操作を遠隔診断する
遠隔診断ステーションを含むことが望ましい。
また、前記操作パネルが、制御、監視或いは診断される
前記機器のタイプ、長さ及び値を表す制御データを符号
化する手段を含むことが望ましい。
また、前記監視手段から前記ビジネス機器の状態を通信
する手段と、得られた状態を前記動的データ記憶手段に
記憶する手段を含むことか望ましい。
また、前記ビジネス機器が、前記通信処理手段を介して
自身を識別する手段を含むことが望ましい。
また、前記ビジネス機器、前記操作パネル及び前記遠隔
診断ステーション間のコマンド及びデータを交換する手
段を含むことが望ましい。
また、前記システム制御処理手段が前記コマンドを解釈
する手段を含むことが望ましい。
また、前記解釈されたコマンドに応答して動作する手段
を含むことが望ましい。
また、前記システム制御処理手段から前記通信プロセッ
サへ前記動作の結果を送る手段を含むことが望ましい。
また、前記通信プロセッサと前記システム制御プロセッ
サ間に通信ラインが確立される時を示す手段を含むこと
が望ましい。
次に、ファクシミリ書類、書類のフォトコピー或いは印
刷書類を各々提供するファクシミリ、複写機或いはプリ
ンタのような１つ以上の異なるビジネス機器と、各々が
操作パネルと通信する対応した装置の通信処理手段を含
む前記ビジネス機器と通信する通信処理手段を含み、前
記異なる機器の機械的操作を制御する１つ以上の操作パ
ネルと、前記機器の寿命の間に変わらないモデル番号、
シリアル番号、モデル特性等の前記機器の特性を示す静
的状態データを記憶する手段と、前記機器の寿命の間め
ったに変わらないＲＯＭバージョン、オプション構成等
の半艶的状態データを記憶する手段と、前記機器の機械
的状態によって変わる動的状態データを記憶する手段と
、前記機器の状態を監視する監視処理手段と、前記機器
のシステム全体の動作を制御するシステム制御処理手段
とから構成されているファクシミリ、複写機或いはプリ
ンタのようなビジネスオフィス機器を制御し、ビジネス
オフィス機器と通信する装置を提供するものである。
更に、ファクシミリ書類、書類のフォトコピー或いは印
刷書類を各々提供するファクシミリ、複写機或いはプリ
ンタのような１つ以上のビジネス機器と、各々が操作パ
ネルと通信する対応した装置の通信処理手段を含む前記
ビジネス機器と通信する通信処理手段を含み、前記異な
る機器の機械的操作を制御する１つ以上の操作パネルと
、前記機器の寿命の間に変わらないモデル番号、シリア
ル番号、モデル特性等の前記機器の特性を示す静的状態
データを記憶する手段と、前記機器の寿命の間めったに

的状態データを記憶する手段と、前記機器の機械的状態

構成されているファクシミリ、複写機或いはプリンタの
ようなビジネスオフィス機器を制御し、ビジネスオフィ
ス機器と通信する装置を提供するものである。
〔作　用〕
本発明は、単数或いは複数の外部装置を目標装置の状態
にアクセスさせ、該目標装置と通信し、該目標装置を制
御する。
〔実施例〕
添付図面と共に本発明の好適実施例を以下に詳細に説明
する。本発明を好適実施例と共に説明するが、本発明は
その実施例に限定されず、特許請求の範囲に規定されて
いる本発明の範囲及び意図の範囲内で各種の変化、改良
及び変更を包含する。
第１図は、複写機ｌＯ１操作パネル２０及び遠隔診断シ
スチージョン３０を含む本発明の好適実施例を示す。し
かしながら、本発明は複写機に限定されず、以下に説明
する手段を有するプリンタ或いはファクシミリのような
他のビジネス機器にも適用できる。
以下の説明において、第１図に示す目標装置は複写機ｌ
Ｏである。目標装置ｌＯはその寿命の間変わらない静的
状態データ１０７、例えばモデル番号、シリアル番号、
モデル特性等を記憶する手段を含む。また、目標装置ｌ
ＯはＲＯＭバージョン、オプション構成のような装置の
寿命の間めったに変わらない半艶的状態データ１０６を
記憶する手段も含む。
更に、目標装置は、トレーにおける記録紙の状態、オイ
ル、トナー、プリント数、受光素子の感度、記録紙の通
路及び位置等のような装置の機械的状態によって変わる
動的状態データ１０５を記憶する手段を有する。装置の
動的状態を記憶するために、目標装置１０は該装置１０
の状態を監視する監視プロセス１０４を含む。システム
全体の動作はシステム制御プロセス１０２によって統制
動作される。
電源を入れると、システム制御プロセス１０２は目標装
置ＩＯを準備させるのみならず、最初に物理的接続をチ
エツクした後、以下に説明する手段で通信を確立するこ
とによって附属装置との通信を確立する。
複写機１０は、使用者か操作パネル２０を介して幾つか
の機能を特定するまでアイドル状態にある。しかしなが
ら、アイドル時間の間、システム制御プロセス１０２に
よってその状態を連続的に監視する。異常状態が検出さ
れると、システム制御プロセス１０２はデータを通信プ
ロセス１０１に送り、そのデータをコード化してコード
化データを通信媒体ライン１２を介して操作パネル２０
に送る。通信プロセス２０１は確認応答信号を送り、デ
ータを解読してそれをシステム制御プロセス２０２へ送
る。システム制御プロセス２０２は複写機ｌＯの状態を
デイスプレィプロセス２０４を介して通知する。
遠隔診断ステーションの通信ライン１３が接続されると
、システム制御プロセス１０２はメツセージを送り、遠
隔診断ステーション３０に注意を与えてステーション３
０に異常状態を知らせる。
入力プロセス２（１３）は使用者からの入力を受けてそ
れをシステム制御プロセス２０２へ送り、該システム制
御プロセスは次にその入力をデイスプレィプロセス２０
４を介してそのまま戻す（エコー・バック）ので、使用
者は彼／彼女（使用者）の入力をフィードバックして得
ることができる。
使用者からのデータは次に通信プロセス２０１において
コード化される。このコード化されたデータは次にライ
ン１２を介して複写機へ送られる。
通信プロセス１０１は次に２０１へ確認応答信号を送り
、その受けたデータを解読し、解読したデータをシステ
ム制御プロセス１０２へ送る。実際の複写処理中、シー
ケンスプロセス１（１３）は時限要求に従って事象を配
列する。遠隔診断ステーション３０はライン１３を介し
て複写機に接続される。そのライン１３は電話線、Ｒ３
２３２ライン或いはその他の適当な通信手段とすること
かできる。通信プロセス３０１は装置１０のプロセス１
、０１及びパネル２０のプロセス２０１と同様に操作す
る。
診断プロセス３０２は、受け取る回答とデータベース３
（１３）に記憶されているデータに基づいて複写機１０
と対話的に交信できるインテリジェント（知能）プロセ
スである。
第２図は本発明を実行するために利用されるハードウェ
アの特徴を示す。装置１０．２０及び３０は全てバス１
００１．２００１及び３００１を有し、それらは各々中
央処理装置１１１．２１＋及び３１１に接続している。
モデルに依存して、バスはさらに多くのユニットを有す
る。センサユニット１１３は、記録紙トレー、電圧及び
紙の通路のような動的データとして記憶されなければな
らない目標装置の機能的状態を検出する。
記憶装置１１２は静的状態のデータ１０７を（ＲＯＭの
ような）固定記憶として保持する。記憶装置１１５は半
艶的状態のデータ１０６をＥＥＰＲＯＭのような電力を
必要としない交換可能な記憶装置或いは低電力を使用し
バッテリーによってサポートてきる（ＣＭＯ３ＲＡＭの

能な記憶装置に記憶する。
デイスプレィ及び入カニニット２１３は入カキ−及びラ
イトとＬＣＤ　（液晶表示装置）のようなデイスプレィ
を制御する。ディスクユニット３１３はデータベースを
保持する。通信ライン１３が規則的に接続されなかった
り、診断が必要なときのみ接続する場合には、インター
フェースユニット１１４は、物理的接続の機械的手段に
起因する中断のようなことを、ライン１，３が接続され
ている中央処理装置Ｉｌｌに知らせる手段を有する。
第３図は本発明による符号化の好適実施例を示す。しか
しながら、ＡＳＮ、１　（１９８７）のような他のエン
コーディング（符号化）も使用することができる。第３
図における符号化スキーマはタイプ、長さ及び値（ＴＬ
Ｖ）符号化の送信からなる。タイプのビット７は０にセ
ットされるが、長さのビット７はｌにセットされる。値
はいずれかのビットの組合せをとることができる。符号
化は２進法であってデータ通信の長さを節約する。
情報フィールドを組み合わせることによって、１２０タ
イプ（４つの情報×３０タイプ）まで定義することがで
きる。タイプを拡張する１つの方法は全ての低い５ビツ
トを１にセットすることである。この拡張のターミネー
タはＯＯＨの２つのバイトである。情報フィールドにお
いて複合を使用することにより、１つ以上の情報を以下
のように送ることができる。

Ｌ３　Ｖ３但し、ＬｌはＴ２〜Ｖ３のバイトの長さ、Ｌ
２はＶ２のバイトの長さ、Ｌ３はｖ３のバイトの長さで
ある。複合は２つに限定されない。
次の第１表はタイプ及び値のコードを示す。これらのコ
ードは説明として示すのであって、実際の実行は用途に
よって変わる。

０と操作パネル２０間の通信の確立を示す。装置１０と
操作パネル２０は共にパワーオン・リセット・シーケン
スで通じる。ステップＩにおいて、操作パネル２０はリ
セットを終了し、その割り当てられた値を装置１０へ送
る。しかしながら、装置１０はリセットで忙しく、イン
ターフェースユニット１１４を介してデータを入手でき
ない。ステップ２において、装置１０は準備完了し割り
当てられた値を操作パネル２ｏへ送る。ステップ３はパ
ネル２０から装置１０への確認を示す。好適実施例にお
いて、受信側は受信したタイプの確認を戻さなければな
らない。
第４図のステップ４は最初の識別か中断して別の試みを
行うべきであることを示す。
ステップ５は接続が確立されたことを示す。
ステップ６は特定されたコピー枚数の例を示す。
ステップ７における確認はコピー枚数（ここでは、３コ
ピー）を表す。
ステップ８は複写処理シーケンスの開始を示し、ステッ
プ９は対応する確認を示す。
ステップｌＯは記録紙ジャムの通信を示し、ステップ工
程１１はその記録紙ジャムの対応する確認を示す。
第５図は第１図と第２図の診断ステーション３０と複写
機１０間の接続の確立過程を示す。第５図はライン４及
び６で複合情報フィールドの使用を示す。この複合か使
用されないと、ライン１０〜１２のような通信が必要で
ある。
第５図のステップｌは診断の識別を示し、ステップ２は
その識別の確認を示す。
ステップ３は識別の問合せを示し、ステップ４は複合確
認を示す。
ステップ５はモデルの識別について問合せをし、ステッ
プ６は対応する確認である。
ステップ７はパラメータの報告を質関し、説明としてス
テップ８はコマンドか理解されないことを示す。
ステップ９はアドレスの報告を示し、ステップ１０．１
１及び１２は各々確認、報告及び確認を示す。
第６図は、本発明の別の実施例を示し、操作パネルｌが
装置のモデル１、モデル２及びモデル３として識別され
る異なるタイプの装置モデルを制御する例を示す。
第７図は、操作パネル１．２或いは３のような異なる操
作パネルか装置モデルｌとして識別される同一のモデル
を制御できる本発明の実施例を示す。
最後に、第８図は装置モデルｌ、２及び３として識別さ
れる異なる装置モデルを制御する操作パネルｌを示す。
第８図の操作パネルｌは適当なバス相互接続と適当な多
重性能によってモデルｌ、２或いは３を制御することが
できる。
要約すると、本発明は以下の手段を使用することによっ
てオフィス設備機器の制御、監視及び該装置との通信を
する装置及び対応する方法を提供するものである。即ち
、 システム（システム制御プロセス）の各種動作を制御す
る手段と、 静的データ（静的状態データ）を記憶する手段と、 半艶的データ（半静的状態データ）を記憶する手段と、 動的データ（動的状態データ）を記憶する手段と、 装置の状態を監視する手段（監視プロセス）と、監視手
段から装置の状態を得て、その状態を動的データの記憶
装置に記憶する手段（監視プロセス→システム制御プロ
セス→動的状態のデータ）と、 Ｒ３２３２やモデム／電話のような他の装置と通信する
手段（通信プロセス）と、 他の装置へそれ自体を識別する手段（通信プロセス）と
、 コマンドと回答のようなデータを交換する手段（通信プ
ロセス）と、 コマンドに基づいて動作をする手段（システム制御プロ
セス）と、 動作の結果を送る手段（システム制御プロセス→通信プ
ロセス）と、 新しい通信ラインが確立されるとき通知する手段（通信
プロセス→システム制御プロセス：インターフェース装
置−中断→ＣＰＵ）である。
以上、本発明の好適実施例を説明するために記載した。
これは、本発明を開示した厳密な形態に限定しようとす
るものではなくて、前記の教示から多くの改良及び変化
が可能である。本発明の原理及びその応用を説明するた
めに好適実施例を選んで記載した。これによって当業者
は本発明及び各種の実施態様を特定の用途に適した各種
の改良と共に利用できる。本発明の範囲は特許請求の範
囲のみによって定義されるものである。
〔発明の効果〕
以上説明した通り、本発明によれば、モデル及び製品間
の装置の各種モジュールを明確に、且つ一様に通信及び
制御することができる。また、製品の開発サイクルを短
縮することができる。また、幾つかのグループに対し開
発せんとする目標装置を待つのではなく、現在の装置を
利用してモジュ−ルの開発を開始させることができる。
更に、現場のサービス組織は各種の製品に対する異なっ
たシステムを持つのではなく、１つの知的システムに対
する診断及びメンテナンス行為を維持することができる
。

Claims (13)

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. （１）ファクシミリ書類、書類のフォトコピー或いは印
    刷書類を各々提供するファクシミリ、複写機或いはプリ
    ンタのようなビジネス機器と、 操作パネルと通信する通信処理手段を含む前記機器と通
    信する通信処理手段を含み、前記機器の機械的操作を制
    御する操作パネルと、 前記機器の寿命の間変わらないモデル番号、シリアル番
    号、モデル特性等の前記機器の特性を示す静的状態デー
    タを記憶する手段と、 前記機器の寿命の間めったに変わらないＲＯＭバージョ
    ン、オプション構成等の半静的状態データを記憶する手
    段と、 前記機器の機械的状態によって変わる動的状態データを
    記憶する手段と、 前記機器の状態を監視する監視処理手段と、前記機器の
    システム全体の動作を制御するシステム制御処理手段と
    から構成されていることを特徴とするファクシミリ、複
    写機或いはプリンタのようなビジネスオフィス機器を制
    御し、ビジネスオフィス機器と通信する装置。
  2. （２）前記操作パネルが、前記機器へ使用者の特定制御
    機能を入力する入力処理手段と、前記入力処理手段から
    の入力を表示する表示処理手段と、 前記操作パネルの操作を制御するシステム制御処理手段
    とから構成されていることを特徴とする前記請求項１記
    載の装置。
  3. （３）前記機器と通信する診断通信プロセッサと、前記
    機器から受け取った診断データを記憶及び蓄積するデー
    タ・ベース手段を含み、前記機器へ診断結果を提供する
    診断処理手段とを含み、前記機器の操作を遠隔診断する
    遠隔診断ステーションを含むことを特徴とする前記請求
    項１記載の装置。
  4. （４）前記操作パネルが、制御、監視或いは診断される
    前記機器のタイプ、長さ及び値を表す制御データを符号
    化する手段を含むことを特徴とする前記請求項１記載の
    装置。
  5. （５）前記監視手段から前記ビジネス機器の状態を通信
    する手段と、 得られた状態を前記動的データ記憶手段に記憶する手段
    を含むことを特徴とする前記請求項１記載の装置。
  6. （６）前記ビジネス機器が、前記通信処理手段を介して
    自身を識別する手段を含むことを特徴とする前記請求項
    ５記載の装置。
  7. （７）前記ビジネス機器、前記操作パネル及び前記遠隔
    診断ステーション間のコマンド及びデータを交換する手
    段を含むことを特徴とする前記請求項６記載の装置。
  8. （８）前記システム制御処理手段が前記コマンドを解釈
    する手段を含むことを特徴とする前記請求項７記載の装
    置。
  9. （９）前記解釈されたコマンドに応答して動作する手段
    を含むことを特徴とする前記請求項８記載の装置。
  10. （１０）前記システム制御処理手段から前記通信プロセ
    ッサへ前記動作の結果を送る手段を含むことを特徴とす
    る前記請求項９記載の装置。
  11. （１１）前記通信プロセッサと前記システム制御プロセ
    ッサ間に通信ラインが確立される時を示す手段を含むこ
    とを特徴とする前記請求項１０記載の装置。
  12. （１２）ファクシミリ書類、書類のフォトコピー或いは
    印刷書類を各々提供するファクシミリ、複写機或いはプ
    リンタのような１つ以上の異なるビジネス機器と、 各々が操作パネルと通信する対応した装置の通信処理手
    段を含む前記ビジネス機器と通信する通信処理手段を含
    み、前記異なる機器の機械的操作を制御する１つ以上の
    操作パネルと、 前記機器の寿命の間に変わらないモデル番号、シリアル
    番号、モデル特性等の前記機器の特性を示す静的状態デ
    ータを記憶する手段と、 前記機器の寿命の間めったに変わらないＲＯＭバージョ
    ン、オプション構成等の半静的状態データを記憶する手
    段と、 前記機器の機械的状態によって変わる動的状態データを
    記憶する手段と、 前記機器の状態を監視する監視処理手段と、前記機器の
    システム全体の動作を制御するシステム制御処理手段と
    から構成されていることを特徴とするファクシミリ、複
    写機或いはプリンタのようなビジネスオフィス機器を制
    御し、ビジネスオフィス機器と通信する装置。
  13. （１３）ファクシミリ書類、書類のフォトコピー或いは
    印刷書類を各々提供するファクシミリ、複写機或いはプ
    リンタのような１つ以上のビジネス機器と、 各々が操作パネルと通信する対応した装置の通信処理手
    段を含む前記ビジネス機器と通信する通信処理手段を含
    み、前記異なる機器の機械的操作を制御する１つ以上の
    操作パネルと、 前記機器の寿命の間に変わらないモデル番号、シリアル
    番号、モデル特性等の前記機器の特性を示す静的状態デ
    ータを記憶する手段と、 前記機器の寿命の間めったに変わらないＲＯＭバージョ
    ン、オプション構成等の半静的状態データを記憶する手
    段と、 前記機器の機械的状態によって変わる動的状態データを
    記憶する手段と、 前記機器の状態を監視する監視処理手段と、前記機器の
    システム全体の動作を制御するシステム制御処理手段と
    から構成されていることを特徴とするファクシミリ、複
    写機或いはプリンタのようなビジネスオフィス機器を制
    御し、ビジネスオフィス機器と通信する装置。
