Abstract
508,625. Load-handling machines for withdrawing piles. GARZI, G. A. June 20, 1938, No. 18202. Convention date, July 13, 1937. [Class 78 (iii)] [Also in Group XXI] Relates to means for withdrawing tubular moulds, piles, planks, boring tubes and the like from the ground. In Fig. 1, a collar 16 is secured to the tube &c. 15 to be withdrawn, and a cable 10 passes from the collar over pulleys 9 carried by a carriage 8 and pulleys 12 carried by the base 1; the carriage 8 is movable on posts 2 by a screw 3 engaging a spherical nut 7 and driven by hand or power through bevels 14. In another form, two or more screws, geared together, are used and the pulleys 12 are omitted. Rack, sprocket or other gearing may replace the screws. In Fig. 3, a hydraulic or pneumatic ram 26 has a plunger 27 with a spherical head 28 engaging the carriage 29. In Fig. 4, the cable 32 passes over pulleys 31, 33 to a pulley 34 carried by a carriage 35 slidable horizontally by a screw 36 and nut 37 or other mechanism.
