783,915. Fluid pressure jacks. ARBELLA, R. C. P., and SVENUNGSSON, J. G., [trading as RODOVERKEN SVENUNGSSON & CO.]. June 7, 1955 [June 11, 1954], No. 16349/55. Class 78 (3). [Also in Group XXIX] A plurality of jacks used in the construction of a tank (see Group XXIX), each comprise a fluid pressure ram 6; a fixed column 1 provided with a pair of toothed bars 18 and channelsection guides 12; a toothed lifting bar 9 which is operatively connected with the lifting head of ram 6; and a lifting carriage 10 provided with rollers 11 engaging guides 12 and spring-loaded pawls 13, 17 engaging the teeth on bars 9, 18. In operation, extension of ram 6 raises bar 9, together with the lifting carriage, until the bar abuts against an adjusting screw 8, on retraction of the ram, bar 9 is lowered but the carriage remains supported by pawls 17 and racks 18. Thus reciprocation of ram 6 causes the carriage, and with it the tank section 24, to be inched along the column 1. The rams of all the jacks are connected in series and are actuated simultaneously from a common source of fluid pressure.
