Abstract

406,243. Moulding concrete pipes. BARR, J. F., Killineer House, Drogheda, Irish Free State. Nov. 30, 1933, No. 33608. Addition to 405,222. [Class 87 (ii).] In apparatus for making concrete pipes or tubes as described in the parent Specification, in which the pipes or tubes are constructed against the pressure of a hydraulic ram by a core provided with helical vanes or ribs which is rotated in a mould mounted on a table carried by the ram, the table 1 is rectangular and is fixed to the top of the ram, being slidable vertically on guides 8 on the framework. The mould 7 is carried by a bogie 6 provided with wheels 5 adapted to run on rails provided on the table. The cores for forming the body of the pipe or tube and the collar respectively are arranged above the table one behind the other, the mould being wheeled first beneath the bodyforming core and then beneath the collarforming core. Slidably mounted on the guides 8 at a position just above the top of the mould when the table is in its lowest position, is a guide frame 9 carrying a pair of guides 9a. On the upward movement of the mould 7, one of the guides 9a is engaged and pushed up by the upper end of the mould, which is thereby held steady during the construction of the pipe or tube. In order to feed concrete to the mould, the drive shaft of the body-forming core is hollow and is connected to the core through a skeleton framework. The drive shafts of the cores are provided at the upper ends with horizontal bevel wheels engaged by bevel wheels on the ends of a horizontal shaft driven from the motor through a chain and sprocket wheel. The ram may be operated pneumatically instead of hydraulically.
