  • the cardboard blanks are introduced into the machine in the form of plates 1 filled with two longitudinal marks 2, 3, obtained previously by crushing, or "upsetting” , cardboard. These marks form hinges around which the flaps 5 and 6 will be folded.
  • the folding is carried out by longitudinal displacement of the blank 1 along the folder.
  • the meeting of the flaps 5, 6, with folding elements, constituted here by two twisted bars 7, 8, conventional, causes the rotation of these flaps, around the corresponding hinges 2, 3, respectively 180 degrees to the right and left , until the flaps are in superposition with the central part 9 of the blank 1, all of this first part of the device being extremely conventional.
  • the blanks 1 are transported through the folder using a conveyor comprising two endless belts 10, 11, pierced with holes 4 regularly distributed in the longitudinal direction, as can be clearly seen in Figure 2.
  • the the distance between these holes 4 is adjusted so as to allow their engagement in the corresponding end pulleys upstream 12, 13 and downstream 14, 15, each of said pulleys being consequently provided with fingers 115 regularly distributed.
  • Each finger 115 has a pointed shape, although having an upper flat 17, and has lateral profiles 16 substantially in the form of involutes of a circle, as you can see in FIG. 2.
  • the upstream pulleys 12 and 13 are mounted idly, while the downstream pulleys 14 and 15 are integral with a shaft 18 driven in rotation by the general movement of the machine.
  • the driving pulleys 14 and 15 thus ensure an advance of the conveyor belts 10 and 11, during the machine cycle, while the holes 4, in combination with the associated fingers 115, allow permanent refocusing of said belts, permanently correcting their movement by in particular despite their fluctuations in length, and thus guaranteeing their perfect cycling.
  • the holes 4 also serve as suction orifices making it possible to guarantee the plating of the central part 9 of the blanks 1 on the active parts of the conveyor belts 10 and 11, and therefore to guarantee their advance during the cycle of the machine.
  • Under each conveyor belt 10, 11, is therefore placed a suction box, respectively 19 and 20 connected to a vacuum pump by pipes 21 ( Figure 2).
  • the folding machine which has just been described has the advantage of guaranteeing the advancement of the plates during the machine cycle.
  • it uses conventional folding elements 7, 8 which has the disadvantage, with certain qualities of cardboard, of risking folding the flaps slightly crosswise.
  • the embodiment which will now be described uses pusher cleats which move, by means of belts, chains, cables, or the like, during the cycle of the machine, that is to say at exactly the same theoretical speed as the plates to be folded, gradually pressing on the flaps to be folded.
  • the flaps can be folded from 0 to 180 degrees.
  • Everything happens in short, with this kind of device as if two slaves were folding the two flaps by pushing laterally on them while moving in the same direction as the boxes and at the same speed.
  • the folding bars 7 and 8 of FIG. 1 are, in this embodiment, replaced by a set of endless twisted belts 22, each turning at the cycle of the machine around end pulleys 23, 24 driven by pulleys 12 of conveyor 10 and carrying, at regular intervals in correspondence with the blanks on conveyor 10, groups of pusher cleats 25.
  • the belts 22 are positioned so that their strand "go", or active, is in alignment with the hinge 2 associated, and the tabs 25 have such a section it is the same for their bearing face 26.
  • the belts 22 are lined with the same holes 4 as the conveyor belts 10 and 11 of Figure 1, and the end pulleys 23 and 24 are likewise lined with fingers correction 115 identical to those described above with reference to FIG. 2.
  • a set of small intermediate pulleys 27 also makes it possible to maintain the belt 22 on the desired twisted path allowing the progressive folding of the flap 5 on the central part 9 of the blank.
  • each belt 22 is adjusted by acting on the relative positions of the pulleys 23, 24 and 27.
  • the belt 22 folds the flap 5 at an angle of approximately 180 degrees and, consequently, the end pulleys 24 and 23 have the positions shown in FIGS. 4 and 6 respectively.
  • the folding takes place gradually as it clearly appears from the three successive phases shown diagrammatically in FIGS. 4 to 6.
  • the respective positions of the end pulleys are adjusted according to the desired folding, easily determined, as in the case of FIGS. 4 and 6, so that the upstream pulley ensures, with a cleat 25, the initial folding position, and that the downstream pulley ensures, with a cleat 25, the final folding position.

Claims (3)

1. Machine zum Falten von Platten, an welchen die Seitenklappen (5) über eine Faltline (2) verbunden sind, mit einem Förderer (10, 11) für die zu faltenden Platten mit Mitteln (4,14,15,19) zum Vorschub der Platten (1) im Zyklus der allgemeinen Maschinenbewegung, mit Seitenschubfaltvorrichtungen, von welchen wenigstens ein Teil aus einem um Endrollen (23, 24) laufenden, endlosen Band (22) mit Seitenmarken die winkelmässig verschiebbar sind und deren ebene Tragfläche jeweils während dem ganzen Faltvorgang auf die Faltlinie ausgerichtet bleibt und die entlang dem erwähnten endlosen Band (22) entsprechend den auf dem Förderer (10,11) nacheinander laufenden Platten 1 angeordnet werden, wobei das endlose Band (22) auch mit Mitteln (23,24,115) ausgestattet ist, welche ihm gestatten, sich mit dem Zyklus der Maschine vorwärtszubewegen, dadurch gekenzeichnet, dass das endlose Band (22) unmittelbar und ohne relative Bewegung mit dem letzteren entsprechende Stossmarken (25) trägt, dass die Endrollen auf beiden Seiten der erwähnten Faltlinie (2) angeordnet sind, und dass die Winkelstellung der erwähnten Endrollen (23, 24) entsprechend dem Faltwinkel der Seitenklappen (5) angeordnet sind.
2. Maschine nach Anspruch 1, gekennzeichnet durch einen Förderer für die zu faltenden Platten der mindestens einen Riemen (10, 11) mit in Längsrichtung in gleichmässigen Abständen vorgesehenen Löchern (4) aufweist, wobei der Mittenabstand zwischen diesen Löchern das Eingreifen mindestens in eine Scheibe (14, 15) zulässt, die folglich Eingriffsvorsprünge (115) besitzt, deren Seitenprofile (16) im wessentlichen in Form von Kreisevolventenabschnitten ausgebildet sind.
3. Maschine nach Anspruch 2, gekennzeichnet durch eine durch die Löcher (4) des Riemens wirkende Saugvorrichtung (19, 21), welche die Platten auf dem Förderriemen festhält.
