Abstract

791,371. Spring wheels. KLOCKNERGEORGSMARIENWERKE AKT.-GES. May 11, 1956 [Dec. 19, 1955], No. 14793/56. Class 144 (1). In a spring railway wheel of the type comprising a disc body and wheel rim having mating V-sections between the opposing surfaces of which are interposed rubber-like rings 4, 41, the disc body comprises two similar angled apertured discs 2, 3 which are connected together back to back by welded dowel pins 7 and are connected to the wheel hub 1 by welded seams 1a, 1b, and the rings 4, 4<SP>1</SP> are of an elastic mouldable synthetic plastic such as polyurethane. As shown the rim 5 comprises a V- section ring on which a tyre 8 is shrunk and which has three radially inwardly directed angularly spaced lugs 6. The lugs 6 have holes 6<SP>1</SP> therethrough to align with holes 2a, 2b through the discs 2, 3 and the associated rings 4, 4<SP>1</SP> whereby the rim 5 and the wheel body may be rigidly bolted together for final machining of the tyre. If the rim 5 is of two-part construction, the rings 4, 4<SP>1</SP> may each be moulded simultaneously to its associated rim part and body disc. If the rim is of one-piece construction, both rings 4, 4<SP>1</SP> are moulded thereto, and then bonded or cemented to the associated discs 2, 3, the subsequent dowelling together of the discs effecting the desired pro-compression of the rings 4, 4<SP>1</SP>. Electrical connection between the rim 5 and the wheel body 2, 3 is effected by a cable 9.
