Abstract
782,841. Vehicle wheels. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. Oct. 11, 1955 [Nov. 20, 1954], No. 33646/54. Class 144 (2). A vehicle wheel comprises a hub 17 with a radial flange 18 to one side of which is secured detachably a generally radial load-supporting body web 3 integral with a rear part 1 having a tyre retaining flange 2, and a separable rim part 8, having the other retaining flange 9, which has a radially inwardly directed rib 11 clamped against the adjacent edge of the rim part 1 by the outer peripheral edge of a separate loadsupporting web 12 detachably secured to the hub flange 18, the rim parts 1, 8 thus being secured together in coaxial relationship. As shown applied to an aircraft wheel, the webs 3 and 12 are oppositely inclined to diverge towards the hub sleeve 17 where they are secured to opposite sides of the flange 18 by bolts 21 having intermediate collars to abut the flange 18 so that the web 12 may be detached without disturbing the web 3. The webs 3 and 12 have also abutting generally radial portions 6 and 14 respectively with aligned holes 7 and 16 to receive clamping bolts 20. Axial alignment of the rim parts 8 and 1 is secured by an axial lip 10 on the part 8 which seats around the part 1 adjacent the edge thereof which abuts the rib 11. A sealing ring may be compressed between the rim parts to permit the use of a tubeless tyre.
