741,069. Vehicle wheels. HUGHES, Ltd., G. H. Sept. 13, 1954 [Sept. 26, 1953], No. 26532/53. Classes 144 (1) and 144 (2). [Also in Group V] A rubber-tyred disc wheel, suitable for use as a truck castor wheel, comprises a pair of circular (pressed steel) discs a bolted together in spaced relationship about a common central hub b, the plates having mutually facing axially inwardly directed peripheral channels a<SP>3</SP> between which rests an annular metal strip f to which the rubber tyre g is bonded in a mould when the wheel is assembled. The disc centres are formed with axially outwardly directed tubular portions a<SP>1</SP> which terminate in radial flanges a<SP>2</SP> and have the ends of the pressed steel strip hub sleeve b, said ends being spotwelded to the portions a<SP>1</SP> to prevent relative rotation. Additional securing is effected by a grease nipple e screwed through a portion a<SP>1</SP> into the hub end. The discs a are secured together by bolts c passing through spacers d.
