  • EP1310409A2 discloses a side airbag arrangement having an inflator and a current regulating cloth to divert inflating gas to the front and rear of the airbag wherein an airbag part is formed by joining mutually facing fabric-like material pieces, an inflator part having an insertion end part which is inserted into and disposed within said airbag part, a gas guide part which directs the flow of gas from said inflator part into said airbag part, a pouch-like gas guide member being disposed within said gas guide part and having an attachment orifice into which said insertion end part of said inflator part is inserted, and vertically and horizontally directed gas injection nozzles facing the internal region of said airbag part, and convex connections formed by a mutually joined part of said fabric-like material pieces, said connections are disposed in opposition to and facing said gas guide member wherein said gas flowing into said airbag part from said inflator part when said airbag part is being inflated causes said gas guide member to come into contact with said connections.
  • a countermeasure applied to rectify this problem has been to install a specially designed gas guide member in the airbag and to attach it to the insertion end of the inflator as means of separating or directing the gas in specific directions therethrough. It has been assumed that the gas guide member may be made from the same flexible material as the airbag in order to be able to install the airbag to the vehicle body in the form of a rolled up spiral or folded over configuration.
  • the gas guide member is equipped with a gas discharge tube part which comes into contact with the convex seam when the airbag part is being inflated.
  • the gas discharge tube part acts to change the direction of gas flow, which is supplied by the inflator part through the gas guide part during inflation, to a transverse direction into the internal region of the airbag part.

  • the part of the convex seam facing the gas guide member is formed approximately triangular in shape and the top part thereof is disposed facing the gas guide part in close proximity. It must be pointed out here that this approximate triangular shape is substantially a 3-sided shape. It is also preferable that each corner of the triangular shape is rounded off so as to form a curve through which adjacent sides of the triangle smoothly merge into each other. It is further preferable that the part of the gas discharge tube between the gas discharge nozzles come into contact with and straddle the two inclined sides of the top part of the convex seam during airbag inflation.
  • the gas guide member is made from an expandable material, and that it is designed to expand, as a result of the flow of gas therethrough, toward the convex seam a distance at least 5mm greater than the clearance therebetween.

Claims (9)

  1. Airbag-Einrichtung für Kraftfahrzeuge, umfassend:
    ein Airbag-Teil (2), das durch Verbinden von zueinander weisenden gewebeartigen Materialstücken (1) gebildet wird,
    ein Gasgeneratorteil (3), das zum Aufblasen des Airbag-Teils (2) verwendet wird, indem in dieses Gas injiziert wird, wobei das Gasgeneratorteil (3) ein Einfügungsendteil (3a) aufweist, das in das Airbag-Teil (2) eingefügt und darin angeordnet ist,
    ein Gasführungsteil (2c), das den Gasstrom von dem Gasgeneratorteil (3) in das Airbag-Teil (2) lenkt,
    ein taschenartiges Gasführungselement (6), das in dem Gasführungsteil (2c) angeordnet ist und eine Befestigungsöffnung (7) aufweist, in die das Einführungsendteil (3a) des Gasgeneratorteils (3) eingeführt wird, sowie Gasinjektionsdüsen (8), die zum Innenbereich des Airbag-Teils (2) weisen, und
    eine konvexe Naht (C3), die durch einen miteinander verbundenen Teil der gewebeartigen Materialstücke (1) gebildet wird, wobei die konvexe Naht (C3) dem Gasführungsteil (2c) gegenüberliegt und zu diesem weist, wobei
    der Gasstrom in das Airbag-Teil (2) von dem Gasgeneratorteil (3) beim Aufblasen des Airbag-Teils (2) bewirkt, dass das Gasführungselement (6) in Kontakt mit der konvexen Naht (C3) kommt.
  2. Airbag-Einrichtung für Kraftfahrzeuge gemäß Anspruch 1, wobei das Gasführungselement (6) ein Gasentladungsrohrteil enthält, das die Gasinjektionsdüsen (8) enthält, und das Gasentladungsrohr als Reaktion auf das Aufblasen des Airbag-Teils (2) in Kontakt mit der konvexen Naht (C3) kommt, sodass die Richtung des Gasstroms in das Airbag-Teil (2) von dem Gasgeneratorteil (3) durch das Gasführungsteil (2c) geändert wird.
  3. Airbag-Einrichtung für Kraftfahrzeuge gemäß Anspruch 1 oder 2, wobei mindestens eine Gasinjektionsdüse (8) des Gasführungselements (6) über jeder Seite eines Vorwölbungsteils (T) der konvexen Naht (C3) ausgebildet ist.
  4. Airbag-Einrichtung für Kraftfahrzeuge gemäß einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 3, wobei die konvexe Naht (C3) eine ungefähr dreieckige Form hat und deren Vorwölbungsteil so angeordnet ist, dass er in unmittelbarer Nähe zu dem Gasführungsteil (2c) weist.
  5. Airbag-Einrichtung für Kraftfahrzeuge gemäß Anspruch 3 oder 4, wobei ein Bereich des Gasentladungsrohrs zwischen den Gasinjektionsdüsen (8) beim Aufblasen des Airbags in Kontakt mit zwei abgeschrägten Seiten (S) des Vorwölbungsteils (T) kommt und diese spreizt.
  6. Airbag-Einrichtung für Kraftfahrzeuge gemäß einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 5, wobei die Breite (W1) der konvexen Naht (C3), die zum Gasführungselement (6) weist, 80 bis 120 % der Breite (W0) des Gasentladungsrohrs des Gasführungselements (6) beträgt.
  7. Airbag-Einrichtung für Kraftfahrzeuge gemäß einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 6, wobei der Zwischenraum (D) zwischen dem Gasführungselement (6) und der konvexen Naht (C3) weniger als 20 mm beträgt.
  8. Airbag-Einrichtung für Kraftfahrzeuge gemäß einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 7, wobei das Gasführungselement (6) aus einem dehnbaren Material besteht.
  9. Airbag-Einrichtung für Kraftfahrzeuge gemäß Anspruch 8, wobei der Gasstrom durch das Gasführungselement (6) bewirkt, dass sich das Element (6) verlängert, und zwar in eine Richtung auf die konvexe Naht (C3) zu und einen Abstand, der mindestens 5 mm größer als der Zwischenraum (D) zwischen ihnen ist.
