Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a method for producing single-walled carbon nanotubes using carbon monoxide as a carbon source.
Conventionally known methods for producing single-walled carbon nanotubes (hereinafter abbreviated as “SWNT”) include an arc discharge method, a laser ablation method, a vapor phase growth method (CVD method), and the like.
In the vapor phase growth method, basically, a catalyst metal and a carbon compound as a carbon source coexist, and SWNT is synthesized under conditions of a temperature of 1000 to 1300 ° C. and a pressure of 0.666 kPa (5 Torr) to normal pressure. is there. Here, acetylene, ethylene, ethanol or the like is used as the carbon source, and Ni, Co, Fe or the like is used as the catalyst metal.
On the other hand, a HiPco (High Pressure CO) method for synthesizing SWNTs by vapor deposition using carbon monoxide (hereinafter abbreviated as “CO”) as a carbon source has been proposed (for example, non-patent literature). 1 to 3). In this HiPco method, CO and gaseous ferrocene serving as a catalytic metal are fed into a reactor, and SWNT is synthesized under reaction conditions of a temperature of 1000 ° C. and a pressure of about 10000 kPa (100 atm). This HiPco method enabled the mass synthesis of SWNT. In addition, it has become possible to use inexpensive CO as a carbon source for SWNTs.
Therefore, the problem in the present invention is that it is possible to synthesize SWNT that uses inexpensive CO as a carbon source, does not contain catalytic metal particles in SWNT, has few structural defects, and has high purity and does not require a purification treatment, and Another object of the present invention is to provide a production method in which reaction conditions are low temperature and low pressure.
To solve this problem,
The invention according to claim 1 is characterized in that SWNT is grown on a support by vapor phase epitaxy using CO as a carbon source and flowing the CO on a support on which a catalytic metal is supported. It is a manufacturing method.

According to a third aspect of the present invention, the catalyst metal is composed of a main catalyst metal composed of a
In the invention according to
According to the SWNT manufacturing method of the present invention, SWNTs with fewer structural defects and a narrow diameter distribution can be obtained compared to the case of using the HiPco method. In addition, SWNTs that do not contain a catalyst in the synthesized SWNTs and do not require purification treatment can be obtained in high yield.
Furthermore, according to the SWNT manufacturing method of the present invention, SWNTs can be synthesized under conditions of low temperature and low pressure, so that the operating cost of the manufacturing apparatus can be reduced. Moreover, since CO can be used as a carbon source of SWNT, raw material costs can be reduced.
First, the SWNT synthesis catalyst used in the present invention will be described.
The catalyst for synthesizing SWNT is not particularly limited, and a catalyst capable of synthesizing SWNT by a conventional vapor growth method, for example, a plate-like body such as a quartz glass plate and a heat-resistant glass plate, or porous silica. Any material may be used as long as it supports a catalyst metal composed of a

Hereinafter, the manufacturing method of the three types of supported catalysts 1 described above will be described.
First, a method for producing the supported catalyst 1 of the first and second examples will be described.
In this production method, basically, the
As the precursor, for example, cobalt, nickel, iron as the
In controlling the dispersion density of the
The dispersion density of the
Next, a method for producing the supported catalyst 1 of the third example will be described.
In this example, a
By the above manufacturing method, the supported catalyst 1 of the third example can be manufactured.
In addition to the

Next, a method for manufacturing SWNTs using this manufacturing facility will be described.
First, the above-described supported catalyst 1 is placed on a quartz boat or the like and loaded into the
After the reaction, the supply of CO and H 2 is stopped, and an inert gas such as argon gas is flowed into the
By the above manufacturing method, SWNT is synthesized and grown on the supported catalyst 1.
Thus, when the SWNT manufacturing method of the present invention is used, the reaction conditions are lower temperature and lower pressure (700 to 800 ° C., 50 to 150 kPa) than when the HiPco method is used. The operating cost can be reduced. Moreover, since CO can be used as a carbon source of SWNT, raw material cost can be reduced.

Thus, when the method for producing SWNT6 of the present invention is used, a homogeneous SWNT6 with few structural defects can be synthesized. Further, since the catalyst metal is supported on the
