Abstract

494,047. Lubricating internal - combustion engines. S. U. CARBURETTER CO., Ltd., and COKAYNE, R. M. Aug. 13, 1937, No. 22283. [Class 12 (iii)] Lubricant is supplied to the cylinders of internal-combustion engines for a short period after starting by means including a closed chamber a mounted adjacent a part of the engine, e.g. the exhaust pipe b. The chamber has an air valve f controlled by a heat-sensitive element g, 'and an oil compartment into which the ends of pipes d, e, depend. The pipe d leads to an oil reservoir i, and the pipe e to the induction pipe h of the engine. On starting the engine oil is drawn from the reservoir i through the pipes d, e, to the induction pipe h. When the engine warms up the heat-sensitive strip g opens the valve f and the oil supply ceases. The pipe d may have a valve k and an air vent n to prevent siphoning.
