Abstract
486,988. Lubricating internal - combustion engines. COKAYNE, R. M. March 10, 1937, No. 7038. [Class 12 (iii)] For supplying lubricant to the cylinder walls of an internal-combustion engine at starting lubricant passes to the engine through an auxiliary carburetter which delivers a mixture of fuel and air to the induction system between the throttle valve and the engine. As shown a lubricant reservoir e is connected to the auxiliary carburetter b by pipes j, m, and a constant float chamber i. The pipe m has a constriction or adjustable valve n therein. Air vents o, p are provided in the reservoir e and chamber i. The auxiliary carburetter b and the main carburetter a have a common float chamber d. In operation, the suction effect in the carburetter b draws lubricant along the pipe m and the resulting mixture presses to the engine through the pipe c. The lubricant flow ceases when the carburetter b is put out of action. If the oil reservoir e is situated at a lower level than the carburetter b the float chamber i may be omitted.
