Abstract

411,249. Rotary blowers. HAYDOCK, J., Dunsley, Four Lanes End, Blackburn, and SHORROCK, C., Thornfield, Garstang Road, Preston. March 4, 1933, No. 6643. [Class 110 (ii).] A rotor comprises a series of segments 19 which are supported in an annular ring 23 at one end, and in a recessed plate 20 which is integral with the driving shaft 24, at the other end. Each of four blades 30 is riveted to a support member 36 mounted on a ball bearing 37, the latter being supported on a fixed stub shaft 16. The member 36 has a part X provided for balancing purposes. The blades slide and rock in slotted thrust blocks 42. Grooves 28 contain oil for sealing purposes. Lubricating oil is fed into the shaft 16 and out through radial holes 40 which pass through distance pieces arranged between pairs of bearings. A flange 38 is screwed into the free end of the shaft 16. A small clearance is provided between the blade tips and the casing bore. The blower is stated to be used as a supercharger on an internal-combustion engine and runs at a speed of 7000 R.P.M.
