Abstract

1,028,341. Staircase construction. R. C. ROLLAND. Jan. 22, 1964 [Jan. 25, 1963], No. 3143/63. Heading E1V. A staircase comprises in combination at least one stringer member 6 and prefabricated step members 7 to be attached across it, which have co-operating guide surfaces interengageable for proper association of the members 6 and 7, and also means for co-operating interengagement thereof along the stringer 6. The stringer 6 includes a channel 11 a with flanges and a web, and each step member 7 has an underside base block 21 with side surfaces to interengage with the inner surfaces of the stringer flanges when positioning it. The channel 11a has apertures 14 in its web for latching with hooks 22 in the underside of each step 7 or vice-versa. The stringer 6 is made up of outer V-shaped elements 9 and the inner shallower element 11a has interengaging inclined sides and upper flanges, the web of the channel 11a extending horizontally across the recess of an element 9. The ends of the stringer are locked in place in the elements 9 by screw rods 23. Projecting from the upper and lower ends of the stringer 6 are cradle members 16a, 16b to receive and support joists 17a, 17b. With a broad staircase two or more stringers 6 may be used and pairs of the members 7 as shown or a longer member 7 with two or more base blocks 21 with hooks 22. The hook-and-aperture arrangement may be reversed. The members 7 may be attached by means of pins passing through holes. The blocks 21 may be as inverted Us which straddle a complementary stringer contour.
