Integrally cast concrete blocks for the outmost layer of the wall of a breakwater each consist of an elongate intermediate member 12 extending between a pair of opposed end members 4 which project transversely from the ends of the intermediate member and the profile of the end members includes a recessed side region 8, able to receive a portion of the intermediate member of a further corresponding block. By laying the blocks in staggered rows along the breakwater from the lower end of the breakwater face or wall the blocks are interlocked with each other.
