本發明提供一種光學元件,包括偏光層、液晶層以及複合層。液晶層形成於偏光層上且包含液晶化合物以及各向異性染料。複合層鄰近於液晶層,包含依序地形成的第一氧化物層、金屬層以及第二氧化物層,且複合層經安置以便使液晶層的液晶化合物的配向方向由複合層所施加的信號改變。
在本發明的一實施例中,在初始狀態下,液晶層是以配向狀態而存在,使得液晶層的光軸相對於液晶層的平面具有0度至90度的傾斜角。

本申請案的例示性光學元件可包含偏光層、液晶層以及複合層。此處,液晶層可形成於偏光層上,且包含液晶化合物以及各向異性染料(anisotropic dye)。此處,複合層可鄰近於液晶層,且依序地包含第一氧化物層、金屬層以及第二氧化物層。此處,液晶化合物及/或各向異性染料可以配向狀態(aligned state)而存在,且液晶化合物的配向(alignment)可由複合層所施加的信號改變。一個複合層可鄰近於液晶層的一側,或兩個複合層可鄰近於液晶層的兩側。圖1展示包含存在於液晶層的兩側上的兩個複合層的光學元件,舉例而言,包含偏光層101、形成於偏光層上的液晶層102以及安置於液晶層的兩側上的兩個複合層103A以及複合層103B的光學元件。
本申請案的例示性光學元件可藉由自外部環境施加的信號而具有可變透光率。自外部環境施加的信號可為(例如)由複合層施加的電壓。如下文將描述,相對於在紅外線區中的光,複合層具有低透射率。因此,當使用複合層來施加電壓時,可阻擋熱且因此節省能量。在下文中,將進一步詳細地描述光學元件。
本文中所使用的術語「偏光層」可為相對於入射光展現選擇性透射性質以及阻擋性質(例如,反射性質或吸收性質)的功能層。偏光層可具有自在各種方向上振動的入射光透射在一個方向上振動的光且阻擋在其餘方向上振動的光的功能。作為反射型偏光層,偏光層的類型可為但並不特定地限於(例如)雙亮度增強膜(dual brightness enhancement film,DBEF)、向液性液晶(lyotropic liquid crystal,LLC)層,或可使用線柵偏光器(wire grid polarizer),且作為吸收型偏光層(absorption-type polarizing layer),可使用藉由運用碘來對諸如聚乙烯醇拉伸膜(PVA stretched film)的聚合物拉伸膜染色而形成的偏光器,或將以配向狀態而聚合的液晶用作主體且將根據液晶的配向而排列的各向異性染料用作客體的客體主體型偏光器(guest-host type polarizer),但本申請案並不限於此情形。
在本申請案中,液晶層可包含液晶化合物以及各向異性染料。液晶層可為客體主體型液晶層。客體主體型液晶層展現各向異性光吸收效應,藉由各向異性光吸收效應,二向色染料(dichroic dye)沿著液晶化合物的排列而排列,且平行於染料的配向方向的光被吸收且垂直於染料的配向方向的光被透射。液晶層中的液晶化合物及/或各向異性染料的配向方向可由自外部環境施
加的信號改變。在此狀況下,由外部環境施加的信號可為經執行以改變液晶化合物及/或各向異性染料的配向的任何類型的信號,且作為代表性實例,信號為電壓的施加。
作為液晶化合物,可使用任何類型的液晶化合物,其限制條件為液晶化合物的配向方向可藉由外部信號的施加而改變。舉例而言,作為液晶化合物,可使用矩列液晶化合物(smectic liquid crystal compound)、向列液晶化合物(nematic liquid crystal compound)或膽固醇狀液晶化合物(cholesteric liquid crystal compound)。另外,液晶化合物可為(例如)沒有可偏光或可交聯基團以藉由施加外部信號而改變配向方向的化合物。
在一個實例中,作為液晶化合物,可使用向列液晶化合物。舉例而言,作為化合物,可使用滿足公式1的向列液晶化合物。

液晶化合物亦可在非常介電各向異性(在長軸方向上的
介電各向異性;εe)與尋常介電各向異性(在短軸方向上的介電各向異性;εo)之間具有3或大於3、3.5或大於3.5、4或大於4、6或大於6、8或大於8或者10或大於10的差值。當液晶化合物具有此介電各向異性時,可提供具有極好驅動電壓性質的元件。由於介電各向異性的差值高,故元件可展現合適性質,且因此差值的上限並不受到特定地限制。舉例而言,作為液晶化合物,可使用具有大約6至50的非常介電各向異性(在長軸方向上的介電各向異性;εe)以及大約2.5至7的尋常介電各向異性(在短軸方向上的介電各向異性;εo)的化合物。
本文中所使用的「染料」可意謂可密集地吸收及/或變換在可見光區的至少部分或整個範圍(例如,400nm至700nm的波長範圍)內的光的材料,且本文中所使用的「各向異性染料」可意謂使能夠各向異性地吸收在可見光區的至少部分或整個範圍內的光的材料。可使用各向異性染料來控制光學元件的透光率。各向異性染料可為但並不特定地限於(例如)黑色染料或彩色染料。各向異性染料可具有5或大於5、6或大於6或者7或大於7的二向色比率(dichroic ratio),亦即,藉由使平行於各向異性染料的長軸的偏光的吸收值除以平行於垂直於長軸方向的方向的偏光的吸收值而獲得的值。染料可在可見光區中的波長範圍內(例如,在大約380nm至700nm或400nm至700nm的範圍內的至少一些或一個波長下)滿足二向色比率。二向色比率的上限可為(例如)大約20、18、16或14。各向異性染料的類型並不受到特定地限制,且舉例而言,可包含已知為具有上述性質且根據液晶化合物的配向而配向的所有類型的染料。
在本申請案的光學元件中,可藉由控制存在於液晶層中的液晶化合物及/或各向異性染料的配向而控制相對於在平行於各向異性染料的排列方向的方向上的偏光以及在垂直於各向異性染料的排列方向的方向上的偏光的各向異性光吸收。舉例而言,可藉由施加外部信號而控制液晶層中的液晶化合物及/或各向異性染料的配向,且因此在液晶層中可藉由施加外部信號而控制各向異性光吸收。具有此性質的液晶層可被稱作主動偏光器(active polarizer),且如下文將描述,可藉由施加外部信號來控制偏光層的透射軸及/或吸收軸之間的關係而控制光學元件的總透射率。
在一個實例中,在液晶層中,可藉由將液晶化合物及/或各向異性染料的配向狀態切換至沿面配向狀態(homogeneous alignment state)、傾斜配向狀態(tilted alignment state)或垂面配向狀態(homeotropic alignment state)而控制偏光性質。
在本說明書中,沿面配向可指液晶層的光軸(optical axis)相對於液晶層的平面具有大約0度至15度、0度至10度或0度至5度的傾斜角的狀況。另外,在本說明書中,垂面配向可指液晶層的光軸相對於液晶層的平面具有大約90度至85度的傾斜角的狀況。另外,在本說明書中,傾斜配向可指液晶層的光軸相對於液晶層的平面具有除了針對沿面配向或垂面配向的傾斜角以外的傾斜角的狀況,且傾斜角可相對於液晶層的平面為(例如)大約大於15度至小於85度。在本說明書中,術語「光軸」可為當入射光穿過對應區時的慢軸(slow axis)、當液晶化合物被形成為桿形狀(rod shape)時的桿的長軸方向,或當液晶化合物被形成為碟狀形狀(discostic shape)時的碟表面的法線方向(normal line
direction)。
另外,此處,液晶層的沿面配向、傾斜配向或垂面配向指能夠控制所要光學元件的透光率的實質沿面配向、傾斜配向或垂面配向,且在此狀況下,液晶層的平面內阻滯(in-plane retardation)以及厚度阻滯(thickness retardation)並不受到特定地限制。
在另一實例中,光學元件可包含偏光層存在於如上文所描述的液晶層的一個表面上的結構,以及液晶層存在於彼此面對的兩個偏光層之間的結構,且在此狀況下,液晶層可在沿面配向狀態下具有下文將描述的處於預定範圍的厚度阻滯(其限制條件為透光率受到合適地控制),且在垂面配向狀態下具有處於預定範圍的平面內阻滯。然而,平面內阻滯以及厚度阻滯並不限於以下範圍。

在一個實例中,在初始狀態下,液晶層中的液晶化合物及/或各向異性染料可以配向狀態而存在,使得液晶層的光軸相對於液晶層的平面具有0度至90度的傾斜角。本文中所使用的「初始狀態」可指未施加能夠影響液晶化合物及/或各向異性染料的配向的外部信號的狀態。在一個特定實例中,在初始狀態下,液晶化合物及/或各向異性染料可以沿面配向狀態或垂面配向狀態而存在。
另外,在初始狀態下,液晶化合物及/或各向異性染料可以配向狀態而存在,使得液晶層的光軸相對於偏光層的吸收軸具有0度至90度的角度。在一個實例中,即使當液晶層以沿面配向狀態而存在時,仍可藉由控制液晶層的光軸方向與偏光層的吸收軸方向之間的角度而控制光學元件的透射率。在一個實例中,當液晶層的光軸方向與偏光層的吸收軸方向之間的角度垂直時,可減小光學元件的透射率,且當液晶層的光軸方向與偏光層的吸收軸方向之間的角度平行時,可增加光學元件的透射率。
此處,液晶化合物及/或各向異性染料可以配向狀態而存
在以相對於偏光板的吸收軸形成一角度,或(例如)以配向狀態而存在以平行於偏光板的吸收軸或以扭轉配向狀態(twisted alignment state)而存在。本文中所使用的「扭轉配向狀態」可為如下狀態:液晶化合物及/或各向異性染料的長軸平行於液晶層的平面,但鄰近液晶化合物及/或各向異性染料的長軸方向藉由略微改變角度而扭轉。另外,液晶層的驅動模式並不受到特定地限制,其限制條件為展現液晶化合物及/或各向異性染料的上述配向性質。舉例而言,可以電控雙折射(electrically controlled birefringence,ECB)模式、扭轉向列(twisted nematic,TN)模式或超扭轉向列(super twisted nematic,STN)模式驅動液晶層,但本申請案並不限於此情形。
如上文所描述,可藉由施加外部信號而切換液晶層的液晶化合物及/或各向異性染料在初始狀態下的配向。在一個實例中,當將外部信號施加至在初始狀態下以沿面配向狀態而配向的液晶層時,可藉由施加外部信號而將液晶層的配向狀態切換成垂面配向狀態,藉此增加透射率,且當將外部信號施加至在初始狀態下以垂面配向狀態而配向的液晶層時,可將液晶層的配向狀態切換成沿面配向狀態,藉此縮減透射率。另外,為了將初始垂面配向狀態切換成沿面配向狀態,為了判定液晶化合物及/或各向異性染料的配向方向,可能需要在預定方向上的預傾斜(pre-tilt)。此處,提供預傾斜的方法並不受到特定地限制,且舉例而言,可藉由安置合適配向膜而提供所要的預傾斜。
此處,當液晶層的液晶化合物及/或各向異性染料處於垂面配向狀態時,各向異性染料的配向方向垂直於存在於下方的偏
光層的平面,且因此,穿過偏光層的光可不被吸收且可穿過液晶層的各向異性染料,且因此可增加光學元件的透射率。同時,當液晶層的液晶化合物及/或各向異性染料處於沿面配向狀態時,各向異性染料的配向狀態平行於下方偏光層的平面。因此,當液晶層的光軸的配向方向經安置為相對於偏光層的吸收軸具有預定角度時,穿過偏光層的部分光可被吸收至各向異性染料,且因此可減小光學元件的透射率。
在一個實例中,可根據是否將外部信號施加至液晶層而在透射模式與阻擋模式之間切換光學元件。舉例而言,可藉由將外部信號施加至液晶層而在可見光區中的透射率為20%或大於20%的透射模式與可見光區中的透射率為3%或小於3%的阻擋模式之間切換光學元件。然而,透射模式以及阻擋模式中的透光率並不限於以上值,且如上文所描述,可藉由控制液晶化合物及/或各向異性染料的配向性質而控制透光率的更多各種範圍。
在一個實例中,當液晶層在初始狀態下處於沿面配向狀態時,液晶層的光軸的配向方向經形成為相對於偏光層的吸收軸具有預定角度,且因此可實現阻擋模式。當藉由施加外部信號而將液晶層轉換成垂面配向狀態時,可增加光學元件的透射率,且因此可實現透射模式。在另一實例中,當液晶層在初始狀態下處於垂面配向狀態時,光學元件可在初始狀態下實現透射模式,且當藉由施加外部信號根據上述預傾斜而將液晶層轉換成沿面配向狀態時,液晶層的光軸的配向方向可相對於偏光層的吸收軸具有預定角度,且因此可實現光學元件的阻擋模式。
光學元件可更包含鄰近於液晶層以控制液晶化合物及/或
各向異性染料的初始配向狀態的配向膜。作為配向膜,可在無特定限制的情況下使用已知垂面配向膜或沿面配向膜。此配向膜可包含諸如摩擦配向膜(rubbing alignment film)的觸碰型配向膜(touch-type alignment film),或可使用包括已知為藉由非觸碰型方法(例如,施加線性偏光(linear polarized light))而展現配向性質的光配向化合物(photo-alignment compound)的配向膜。
此處,當以扭轉向列模式或超扭轉向列模式驅動液晶層時,液晶層可更包含旋光性試劑(chiral agent)。旋光性試劑可誘發液晶化合物及/或各向異性染料的分子排列以具有螺旋形結構(spiral structure)。作為旋光性試劑,可在無特定限制的情況下使用可誘發所要螺旋形結構而不損害向列規則性的任何旋光性試劑。用於對液晶誘發螺旋形結構的旋光性試劑需要至少包含分子結構的旋光性。舉例而言,作為旋光性試劑,可使用具有一個或至少兩個不對稱碳的化合物、諸如旋光性胺或旋光性亞碸(chiral sulfoxide)的在雜原子上具有不對稱點的化合物,或諸如疊烯類(cumulene)或聯萘酚(binaphthol)的具有軸向不對稱光活性位點(axially asymmetric optically active site)的化合物。旋光性試劑可為(例如)具有1,500或小於1,500的分子量的低分子化合物。作為旋光性試劑,可使用市售旋光性向列液晶,例如,由默克(Merck)製造的旋光性摻雜劑液晶S-811或由巴斯夫(BASF)製造的LC756。
液晶層可更包含柱圖案(pillar pattern)。更具體言之,液晶層可更包含經形成以維持存在於液晶層上以及液晶層下的兩個鄰近層之間的間隙的柱圖案。當液晶層存在於偏光板與複合層
之間時,下層以及上層可為偏光板以及複合層,且當液晶層存在於兩個複合層之間時,下層以及上層可為兩個複合層。液晶化合物及/或各向異性染料可存在於並不存在柱圖案的區中。柱圖案可形成於鄰近於液晶層的上層以及下層中的一者上,且使用黏著劑而附接至另一層。能夠附接柱圖案與複合層的黏著劑可存在於柱圖案的柱表面上,且黏著劑的類型並不受到特定地限制,且因此可使用用於層壓光學元件的任何已知黏著劑。
柱圖案可包含可固化樹脂。可固化樹脂的類型可為但並不特定地限於熱可固化樹脂,或諸如UV可固化樹脂的光可固化樹脂。舉例而言,作為熱可固化樹脂,可使用矽酮樹脂(silicone resin)、矽樹脂(silicon resin)、呋喃樹脂(furan resin)、聚胺基甲酸酯樹脂(polyurethane resin)、環氧樹脂、胺基樹脂(amino resin)、酚樹脂(phenol resin)、尿素樹脂(urea resin)、聚酯樹脂(polyester resin)或三聚氰胺樹脂(melamine resin),但本申請案並不限於此情形。作為UV可固化樹脂的代表性實例,可使用丙烯酸聚合物(acrylic polymer),諸如丙烯酸聚酯聚合物(polyester acrylate polymer)、聚苯乙烯丙烯酸酯聚合物(polystyrene acrylate polymer)、環氧丙烯酸酯聚合物(epoxy acrylate polymer)、聚胺基甲酸酯丙烯酸酯聚合物(polyurethane acrylate polymer)或聚丁二烯丙烯酸酯聚合物(polybutadiene acrylate polymer)、矽酮丙烯酸酯聚合物(silicone acrylate polymer)或丙烯酸烷酯聚合物(alkyl acrylate polymer),但本申請案並不限於此情形。
舉例而言,可在不損害本申請案的目標的情況下合適地設計柱圖案的形狀以及排列類型,以維持兩個複合層之間的預定
間隙。可存在柱圖案以將一個或至少兩個柱形狀彼此隔開,或如隔板(partition)一樣劃分間隔。可在不損害本申請案的目標的情況下合適地選擇柱的寬度、柱之間的間隙、柱的厚度以及液晶層中的柱圖案的面積比率(area ratio)。舉例而言,柱的寬度可為1μm至500μm,柱之間的間隙可為10μm至5000μm,且相對於100%的液晶層面積,液晶層中的柱圖案的面積比率可為大約0.1%至50%。另外,可考慮到液晶層的厚度而在類似於液晶層的厚度的範圍內合適地選擇柱的高度。
在下文中,將詳細地描述複合層。複合層可依序地包含第一氧化物層、金屬層以及第二氧化物層。複合層可充當能夠將諸如電壓的外部信號施加至液晶層的電極層。複合層具有極好透明度,此是由於複合層在可見光區中具有高透光率,且複合層使能夠阻擋熱,此是由於複合層在紅外線區中具有低透光率且複合層亦具有高導電率以及低薄片電阻值。因此,此複合層可節省能量,且可極有用地用作光學元件的電極層。
相對於具有在可見光區中的波長(例如,在大約400nm至700nm的範圍內)的光或具有550nm的波長的光,複合層可具有80%或大於80%、85%或大於85%或者90%或大於90%的透射率。複合層可有用地用作滿足上述數值範圍的光學元件的電極層。然而,複合層在可見光區中的透光率並不限於以上數值範圍,且可在可見光區中具有通常作為透明電極而可得到的透光率。
相對於具有在紅外線區中的波長(例如,在大約700nm至1000nm的範圍內)的光或具有780nm或大於780nm的波長的光,複合層可具有70%或小於70%、65%或小於65%或者60%
或小於60%的透射率。由於滿足數值範圍的複合層可在紅外線區中阻擋熱,故可節省能量。複合層在紅外線區中的透光率的下限並不受到特定地限制,然而,舉例而言,當複合層用作智慧窗(smart window)的電極層時,可為0%至5%。
複合層可具有20歐姆/平方(Ω/□)或小於20歐姆/平方、15歐姆/平方或小於15歐姆/平方或者10歐姆/平方或小於10歐姆/平方的薄片電阻,且下限可為但並不特定地限於0.1歐姆/平方或大於0.1歐姆/平方。當將具有在以上數值範圍內的薄片電阻的複合層應用於光學元件時,可最小化功率消耗(power consumption),且因此可增加光學元件的效率。
複合層的性質(例如,在可見光區及/或紅外線區中的透光率,以及薄片電阻)可由(例如)第一氧化物層、金屬層以及第二氧化物層的折射率、厚度、導電率或材料控制。本文中所使用的「氧化物層」可為包含氧化物作為主要成分的層,且本文中所使用的「金屬層」可為包含金屬作為主要成分的層。氧化物層可為包含大約80wt%或大於80wt%的氧化物的層,且金屬層可為(例如)包含大約80wt%或大於80wt%的金屬的層。
在一個實例中,第一氧化物層的折射率可高於第二氧化物層的折射率,且金屬層的折射率可低於第二氧化物層的折射率。

當金屬層、第一氧化物層以及第二氧化物層中的每一者滿足折射率的範圍時,複合層在可見光區中具有高透光率且在紅外線區中具有低透光率,且因此可在節能型光學元件中有用地用作透明電極層。
雖然將金屬層、第一氧化物層以及第二氧化物層的折射率控制為處於以上範圍的方法並不受到特定地限制,但可藉由(例如)控制每一層的厚度或用於每一層的沈積製程的條件而控制此方法。具體言之,結晶度(degree of crystallinity)可藉由控制用於每一層的沈積條件予以控制,且因此,即使在相同厚度以及材料的情況下,折射率仍可彼此不同。沈積製程可藉由已知沈積方法(例如,濺鍍(sputtering))而執行。更具體言之,第一氧化物層以及第二氧化物層可藉由(例如)RF濺鍍而沈積,且金屬層可藉由(例如)DC濺鍍而沈積。
在一個實例中,金屬層的厚度可在5nm至20nm的範圍內。更具體言之,金屬層的厚度可為5nm或大於5nm、6nm或大於6nm、7nm或大於7nm、8nm或大於8nm、9nm或大於9nm、10nm或大於10nm、11nm或大於11nm或者12nm或大於12nm,以及20nm或小於20nm、19nm或小於19nm、18nm或小於18nm、17nm或小於17nm、16nm或小於16nm、15nm或小於15nm、14nm或小於14nm或者13nm或小於13nm。當金屬層的厚度在以上範圍內時,易於將金屬層的折射率控制為處於上述範圍。另外,當金屬層的厚度在以上範圍內時,易於形成金屬層的連續膜(continuous film),且因此可實現極好導電率以及低電阻,且可增加光學元件在可見光區中的透光率。
金屬層亦可包含具有20歐姆/平方或小於20歐姆/平方且較佳地為10歐姆/平方或小於10歐姆/平方的薄片電阻的導電金屬。當包含於金屬層中的導電金屬的導電率在以上範圍內時,可縮減複合層的薄片電阻值,且因此可增加光學元件的效率。
金屬層可包含諸如銀(Ag)、鋁(Al)、鉑(Pt)、銅(Cu)或金(Au)的金屬。金屬層可包含(例如)銀。在此狀況下,在製造複合層的製程中或在使用包含於光學元件中的複合層的製程中,在接觸空氣以及濕氣的情況下,氧化銀的部分可包含於金屬層中。當金屬層包含銀以及氧化銀時,可相對於100wt%的金屬層包含0.1wt%或大於0.1wt%以及50wt%或小於50wt%的氧化銀。
在一個實例中,第一氧化物層的厚度可在20nm至60nm或40nm至50nm的範圍內。更具體言之,第一氧化物層的厚度可為20nm或大於20nm、25nm或大於25nm、30nm或大於30nm、35nm或大於35nm或者40nm或大於40nm,以及60nm或小於60nm、55nm或小於55nm、50nm或小於50nm或者45nm或小於45nm。當第一氧化物層的厚度在以上範圍內時,易於將第一氧化物層的透光率或折射率控制為處於以上範圍,且因此可減小形成於第一氧化物層上的金屬層的沈積的缺陷率(defect rate)。
在一個實例中,第二氧化物層的厚度可為10nm至100nm,且較佳地為20nm至60nm。更具體言之,第二氧化物層的厚度可為10nm或大於10nm、15nm或大於15nm、20nm或大於20nm、25nm或大於25nm、30nm或大於30nm、35nm或大於35nm、40nm或大於40nm、45nm或大於45nm或者50nm
或大於50nm,以及100nm或小於100nm、95nm或小於95nm、90nm或小於90nm、85nm或小於85nm、80nm或小於80nm、75nm或小於75nm、70nm或小於70nm、65nm或小於65nm、60nm或小於60nm或者55nm或小於55nm。當第二氧化物層的厚度在以上範圍內時,易於將第二氧化物層的透光率或折射率控制為處於以上範圍,且可獲得極好導電率以及低電阻值。
舉例而言,第二氧化物層可具有在1.0×10-5Ωcm至1.0×105Ωcm且較佳地為1.0×10-4Ωcm至1.0×104Ωcm的範圍內的電阻率(resistivity)。當第二氧化物層的電阻率在以上範圍內時,可減小複合層的薄片電阻,且因此可增加光學元件的效率。
第一氧化物層以及第二氧化物層中的每一者可包含金屬氧化物,金屬氧化物包含選自由以下各者組成的群組的至少一金屬:銻(Sb)、鋇(Ba)、鎵(Ga)、鍺(Ge)、鉿(Hf)、銦(In)、鑭(La)、鎂(Mg)、硒(Se)、矽(Si)、鉭(Ta)、鈦(Ti)、釩(V)、釔(Y)、鋅(Zn)以及鋯(Zr)。

包含於第二氧化物層中的金屬可為摻雜材料(doping material)。由於第二氧化物層可更包含第二金屬,故當用作光學元件中的電極層時,可改良電子遷移率(electron mobility)。由於第二氧化物層具有類似於第一氧化物層的高折射性質,故可增加複合層在可見光區中的透光率,且可經由光學設計而減小複合層在紅外線區中的透光率。另外,由於第二氧化物層具有導電率,
故金屬層的導電率未受到抑制,且複合層可充當各種光學元件中具有低發射率(低E)功能的透明電極。
第二氧化物層中的第二金屬的含量可為0.1wt%或大於0.1wt%以及10wt%或小於10wt%。第二氧化物層的折射率可藉由(例如)第二金屬的含量而改變。因此,為了實現複合層在可見光區中的最大透光率,有必要控制第二氧化物層中的第二金屬的含量。另外,包含於第二氧化物層中的第二金屬影響第二氧化物層的導電率。當第二氧化物層中的第二金屬的含量滿足以上範圍時,第二氧化物層可實現最佳折射率以及導電率。
可在不損害本申請案的目標的情況下合適地選擇複合層的厚度。舉例而言,可將複合層的厚度控制為處於50nm至300nm或70nm至200nm的範圍,以展現在可見光區中的高透光率、在紅外線區中的低透光率、極好導電率,以及低電阻性質。
複合層可更包含基底層(base layer),且舉例而言,第一氧化物層可鄰近於基底層。作為基底層,可在無特定限制的情況下使用已知材料。舉例而言,可使用諸如玻璃膜、結晶或非晶矽膜、石英或氧化銦錫(indium tin oxide,ITO)膜或者塑膠膜的無機膜。作為基底層,可使用光學各向同性基底層(optically isotropic base layer)、諸如阻滯層(retardation layer)的光學各向異性基底層(optically anisotropic base layer)或偏光板,或彩色濾光片基板(color filter substrate)。舉例而言,當偏光板存在於基底層的內表面上,亦即,存在於液晶層與基底層之間時,儘管將各向異性基底層用作基底層,但可實現具有合適效能的裝置。
作為塑膠基底層,可使用包含以下各者的基底層:三乙
醯基纖維素(triacetyl cellulose,TAC);諸如降冰片烯衍生物(norbornene derivative)的環烯烴聚合物(cyclic olefin polymer,COP);聚(甲基丙烯酸甲酯)(poly(methyl methacrylate),PMMA);聚碳酸酯(polycarbonate,PC);聚乙烯(polyethylene,PE);聚丙烯(polypropylene,PP);聚乙烯醇(polyvinyl alcohol,PVA);二乙醯纖維素(diacetyl cellulose,DAC);聚丙烯酸酯(polyacrylate,Pac);聚醚碸(polyethersulfone,PES);聚醚醚酮(polyetheretherketone,PEEK);聚苯碸(polyphenylsulfone,PPS);聚醚醯亞胺(polyetherimide,PEI);聚萘二甲酸伸乙酯(polyethylene naphthalate,PEN);聚對苯二甲酸伸乙酯(polyethylene terephthalate,PET);聚醯亞胺(polyimide,PI);聚碸(polysulfone,PSF);聚芳酯(polyarylate,PAR)或非晶氟樹脂(amorphous fluorine resin),但本申請案並不限於此情形。在需要時,在基底層上可存在金、銀或諸如二氧化矽或一氧化矽的矽化合物的塗層,或者存在防反射層(reflection-preventing layer)的塗層。
在本申請案中,第二氧化物層相較於第一氧化物層可更靠近液晶層而存在。另外,複合層可存在於液晶層的兩側上。亦即,液晶層可安置於彼此面對的兩個複合層之間。在此狀況下,存在於液晶層的兩側上的複合層可具有:具有相同折射率、厚度或薄片電阻的相同結構;或具有不同折射率、厚度或薄片電阻的獨立結構。
本申請案亦是有關於提供光學元件的用途。本申請案的光學元件可根據外部信號的施加而具有可變透射率。再者,由於
光學元件可藉由使用對在紅外線區中的光具有低透射率的複合層而施加外部信號,故光學元件可阻擋熱且節省能量。此光學元件可應用於各種光學裝置。本申請案發明的光學元件可應用於(例如)天窗。
本文中所使用的「天窗」可為存在於汽車的脊頂上的固定或操作(通風或滑動)開口,且包含用來將光或新鮮空氣輸入至汽車中的所有類型的裝置。在本申請案中,天窗的操作類型並不受到特定地限制。舉例而言,天窗可被手動地操作或由馬達操作,且可根據所要用途而合適地選擇天窗的形狀、大小或式樣。舉例而言,根據操作模式,天窗可為但不限於彈出型天窗、阻流板(瓦片與滑件)型天窗、內置型天窗、摺疊型天窗、頂裝型天窗、全景脊頂系統型天窗、可移除式脊頂面板(t型頂部或塔爾加脊頂)型天窗,或太陽能型天窗。
本申請案的例示性天窗可包含光學元件,且在此狀況下,光學元件的細節可與在光學元件的零件(item)中描述的細節相同。
天窗可更包含UV阻擋層。本文中所使用的「UV阻擋層」可為具有UV阻擋功能的已知功能層。UV阻擋層可形成於偏光層、液晶層或複合層的一個或兩個表面上。舉例而言,UV阻擋層201A或UV阻擋層201B可存在於如圖2所展示的天窗的最外表面上。此UV阻擋層可為(例如)UV阻擋壓敏黏著劑或UV阻擋膜。作為UV阻擋壓敏黏著劑,可使用藉由將具有UV阻擋功能的已知添加劑添加至已知壓敏黏著劑的成分而製備的UV阻擋壓敏黏著劑。舉例而言,作為UV阻擋膜,可使用藉由在已知壓敏黏
著劑的一個表面上形成包含具有UV阻擋功能的已知添加劑的層而製備的UV阻擋膜。舉例而言,作為UV阻擋壓敏黏著劑,可使用由大王製紙(DAIO Paper)製造的EW1501-D1-UV、EW1502-D1-UV或EW1504-D1-UV,但本申請案並不限於此情形。
在下文中,將參考實例以及比較例來詳細地描述上述內容。然而,本申請案的範疇並不限於以下描述。
藉由使用RF濺鍍在玻璃基板上沈積CeO2達35nm的厚度而形成第一氧化物層。藉由以下操作而製造複合層:使用DC濺鍍方法在1.5W/cm2以及3毫托(mTorr)的條件下在第一氧化物層上沈積由Ag組成的金屬層達10nm的厚度,以及在金屬層上沈積摻Ga氧化鋅(Ga-doped zinc oxide,GZO)層作為第二氧化物層達45nm的厚度。
在此狀況下,作為藉由使用M-2000設備[製造商:J.A.伍拉姆有限公司(美國)]來量測每一層的折射率而獲得的結果,第一氧化物層在550nm的波長下的折射率為2.34,金屬層在550nm的波長下的折射率為0.19,且氧化鋅層在550nm的波長下的折射率為1.94。
另外,作為藉由使用紫外線-可見光光譜儀(UV-vis spectrometer)來量測複合層的可見光線透射率(visible ray transmittance)而獲得的結果,在550nm的波長下的透射率為87.2%。
此外,使用薄片電阻計而量測的複合層的薄片電阻小於10歐姆/平方。
根據以下方法而製造具有圖3所展示結構的天窗用光學元件。藉由以下操作而製造光學元件:使用光學膠(optically clear adhesive,OCA)層301(EW1501-D1-UV,大王製紙)將藉由與上文所描述的方法相同的方法而製造的第一複合層103A堆疊於已知吸收型線性偏光層101上,使得所製造的複合層的第一氧化物層接觸OCA的表面;形成包含相對於複合層的第二氧化物層上的100重量份的液晶化合物處於1比3重量份的比率的液晶化合物(HPC21600,HCCH)與各向異性染料(X12,巴斯夫)的液晶層102;以及堆疊藉由與上文所描述的方法相同的方法而製造的第二複合層103B,使得複合層的第二氧化物層接觸液晶層。此處,形成液晶層,使得液晶層的光軸相對於液晶層的平面具有大約0度至15度的傾斜角,亦即,使液晶化合物及/或各向異性染料沿面地配向。再者,形成液晶層,使得液晶層的光軸相對於吸收型線性偏光層的吸收軸具有大約90度的角度。
藉由與實例1中描述的方法相同的方法而製造實例2的天窗,惟將藉由以下方法而製造的複合層用作複合層除外。
藉由使用RF濺鍍在玻璃基板上沈積CeO2達30nm的厚度而形成第一氧化物層。藉由以下操作而製造複合層:藉由
DC濺鍍在1.5W/cm2以及3毫托的條件下在第一氧化物層上沈積由Ag組成的金屬層達10nm的厚度,以及在金屬層上沈積摻Al氧化鋅(Al-doped zinc oxide,AZO)層作為第二氧化物層達50nm的厚度。
在此狀況下,第一氧化物層在550nm的波長下的折射率為2.34,金屬層在550nm的波長下的折射率為0.19,且第二氧化物層在550nm的波長下的折射率為1.89。另外,作為藉由使用紫外線-可見光光譜儀來量測複合層的可見光線透射率而獲得的結果,在550nm的波長下的透射率為85.5%。另外,使用薄片電阻計而量測的複合層的薄片電阻小於10歐姆/平方。
藉由與實例1中描述的方法相同的方法而製造比較例1的天窗,惟將氧化銦錫透明電極層用作複合層除外。
藉由與實例1中描述的方法相同的方法而製造比較例2的天窗,惟將藉由以下方法而製造的複合層用作複合層除外。
藉由使用RF濺鍍在玻璃基板上沈積CeO2達35nm的厚度而形成第一氧化物層。藉由以下操作而製造複合層:藉由DC濺鍍在0.5W/cm2以及15毫托的條件下在第一氧化物層上沈積由Ag組成的金屬層達10nm的厚度,以及在金屬層上沈積摻Ga氧化鋅(GZO)層作為第二氧化物層達45nm的厚度。

另外,由薄片電阻計量測的金屬層的薄片電阻大於10歐姆/平方,金屬層的使用紫外線-可見光光譜儀在550nm的波長下的可見光線透射率為46.8%,且折射率為1.95。另外,複合層的使用紫外線-可見光光譜儀在550nm的波長下的可見光線透射率為79.1%,且使用薄片電阻計而量測的複合層的薄片電阻大於10歐姆/平方。
藉由與實例2中描述的方法相同的方法而製造比較例3的天窗,惟在複合層的製造中將第一氧化物層形成達10nm的厚度且將第二氧化物層形成達80nm的厚度除外。
使用紫外線-可見光光譜儀而量測的複合層的可見光線透射率在550nm的波長下為72.6%。
另外,由薄片電阻計量測的複合層的薄片電阻大於10歐姆/平方。
在實例1中製造的光學元件中,將液晶層分別形成達10μm以及15μm的厚度,且在連接能夠將垂直電場施加至複合層的電力供應器(power supply)之後,使用混濁度計[NDH 5000SP;日本電色(Nippon Denshoku)(日本)]來量測光學元件根據驅動
電壓而對具有大約550nm的波長的光的透射率。圖4中展示結果。如圖4所展示,可看出,當未施加電壓時,展示低透射率,且隨著施加電壓,將液晶化合物以及各向異性染料轉換成垂直配向狀態(vertical aligned state)且透射率增加。
在未施加電壓的狀態下量測在實例以及比較例中製造的光學元件的透射率以及反射率。具體言之,使用Solid Spec-3700[製造商:島津(Shimadzu)(日本)]來量測透射率以及反射率,且在圖5(實例1)以及圖6(比較例1)中展示透射率以及反射率。如圖5以及圖6所展示,確認出與使用氧化銦錫透明電極層的比較例1中的光學元件相比較,使用本申請案的複合層作為透明電極層的實例的光學元件展示在可見光區中的類似透光率,但展示在紅外線區中相當低的透光率。
根據波長來評估在實例1以及比較例2中製造的金屬層的折射率以及吸收係數,且在圖7中展示折射率以及吸收係數。在圖7中,n意謂金屬層根據光的波長的折射率,λ意謂光的波長,且k意謂金屬層根據光的波長的吸收係數。如圖7所展示,確認出儘管將金屬層形成達相同厚度,但折射率以及吸收係數根據用於形成金屬層的條件而有所不同。
藉由與實例1以及實例2相同的方法而製造光學元件,且藉由改變第一氧化物層以及第二氧化物層的折射率而評估複合層根據第一氧化物層以及第二氧化物層的折射率而相對於具有550nm的波長的光的透射率,且在圖8中展示。如圖8所展示,確認出複合層的透光率受到第一氧化物層以及第二氧化物層的折射率影響,且特定言之,當第一氧化物層以及第二氧化物層的折射率包含於本申請案的以上範圍內時,判定出展現相對於具有550nm的波長的光為大約80%或大於80%的極好透光率。

- 一種光學元件,包括:偏光層;液晶層,形成於所述偏光層上且包含液晶化合物以及各向異性染料;以及複合層,鄰近於所述液晶層,包含依序地形成的第一氧化物層、金屬層以及第二氧化物層,且所述複合層經安置以便使所述液晶層的所述液晶化合物的配向方向由所述複合層所施加的信號改變,其中相對於在紅外線區中的光,所述複合層具有70%或小於70%的透射率,其中所述第一氧化物層的折射率高於所述第二氧化物層的折射率,且所述金屬層的折射率低於所述第二氧化物層的折射率,其中相對於具有550nm的波長的光,所述第一氧化物層具有在1.2至2.8的範圍內的折射率,且所述第二氧化物層具有在1.5至2.5的範圍內的折射率。
