Abstract
PURPOSE:To make it possible to prolong the service life of a plasma ignition plug by releasing the performance of plasma ignition or reducing ignition energy within the range of specific operation in an ignition unit equipped with both a plasma ignition plug and an oridnal plug. CONSTITUTION:In a two point plug system provided with both a spark ignition plug 4 and a plasma ignition plug 6, a spark ignition by the ignition plug 4 and a plasm ignition by the ignition plug 6 are performed in parallel except for high load operation. On the other hand, a throttle position sensor 24 allows a switch 34 to open during high load operation. A capacitor 36 for low voltage generation circuit 23 is shut off from a power source 33 and fails to charge or discharge. The ignition by the plugs 4 and 6 is only a spark ignition by a high voltage generation circuit 22. Therefore, a sufficient ignition capacity can be obtained and the superheat of the ignition plug 6 can be prevented, thereby prolonging the service life of the ignition unit.
