Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable an ignition device composed of a current breaking type combined with a capacity discharging type to prevent knocking and the like by impressing capacity discharging type output on an ignition plug earlier than a spark discharge from a current breaking type. CONSTITUTION:When an interrupter device 3 is closed, an exciting coil 15 is not turned on, a contact point 14 is opened and both a condenser 12 and a diode 5 are in OFF state, being cut off from an ignition plug 6. When the device 3 is opened, the exciting coil 15 is supplied with power from a direct current power source 1 through a primary coil of an ignition coil 2, the contact point 14 is closed and both the condenser 12 and the ignition plug 6 are connected. Since the interrupter device 3 is closed at T0 in an exhaust stroke and opened at T21 right before the regular ignition time T22, charging voltage Vc of the condenser 12 is temporarily cut off from the ignition plug 6 at T0, impressed again at T21, and then discharged through the ignition plug 6 at T22. Thus there is no discharge through the ignition plug 6 even if a required voltage 42 drops below Vc in the intake stroke, therefore, a knocking phenomenon due to an erroneous ignition during intake stroke is not generated.
