PURPOSE:To save electric power consumption of a battery, in an ignition device where spark ignition and plasma ignition can be performed in a single cylinder, by providing a speed decider, detecting speed of an engine not more than a prescribed value, and controlling the plasma ignition. CONSTITUTION:When speed of an engine is not more than preset speed, a speed decider 31 compares the preset speed with detected speed to open a switch 26. Accordingly, a low voltage generator circuit is not operated but high voltage generator circuits 21a, 21b only operate, and normal spark ignition is performed in a spark ignition plug 6 and plasma ignition plug 7 through the first and second distributor units 20 and 25. On the other hand, if the speed of the engine is increased to exceed the before said preset speed, the speed decider 31 detects this state to close the switch 26, and a capacitor 28 is charged by a battery 16 in the low voltage generator circuit 23 to generate low voltage at its output terminal 23a. Accordingly, the plasma ignition plug 7 in each cylinder is applied with high voltage and then applied with low voltage continuously from the circuit 23, and plasma ignition is performed by jetting plasma gas.
