Abstract
PURPOSE:To save consumption of battery power, in an ignition device where spark ignition and plasma ignition can be performed in a single cylinder, by providing an electric load detector, detecting the consumption of electric power not less than a prescribed level, and controlling the plasma ignition. CONSTITUTION:During operation of an engine, when consumption power of an electric load is not more than a prescribed level, a switch 26 is closed by an electric load detector 31, and a capacitor 28 is charged by a battery 16 in a low voltage generator circuit 23, then low voltage is generated at an output terminal 23a. Accordingly, a spark ignition plug 6 performs spark ignition by a high voltage generator circuit 21a, and a plasma ignition plug 7 is applied with high voltage of a high voltage generator circuit 21b and low voltage from the low voltage generator circuit 23 to perform plasma ignition. On the other hand, if power consumption of the electric load not less than a prescirbed level is detected by the electric load detector 31, the switch 26 is opened, and the low voltage circuit 23 is not operated, then the spark ignition plug 6 and the plasma ignition plug 7 perform normal spark ignition by the high voltage circuits 21a, 21b.
