超音波処置及び/又はイメージングデバイスの種々の実施形態は、国際公開第2009/149390号からの国内段階公報である米国特許出願公開第2011/0112405号に記載されており、これらの特許の各々は、引用することによりその全体が本明細書の一部をなす。

種々の実施形態において、処置は、向上した精度で有利に送出することができる。さらに、処置エリアにおける変動が低減した場合、効率、快適さ及び安全性を向上させることができる。これにより、治療時間を短縮し、被験者が受ける痛みを低減させることができる。幾つかの場合では、焦点ゾーンにおける不均一な加熱は、変換器の幾何学的態様からもたらされる可能性がある。圧力又は温度プロファイルにおける不整合は、エッジ効果に帰する可能性があり、それにより、変換器の焦点ゾーンの周囲の圧力又は温度のスパイクがもたらされる可能性がある。したがって、エッジ効果により、加熱の均一な線セグメントを達成する代わりに、セグメントは、多くの隔離したホットスポットに破断され、それにより、焦点ゾーンにおけるより均一な熱分布という目標を満足させることができない。この現象は、上昇した音圧に関連する高い加熱速度で更に悪化する。これは、特に高圧のエリアで生成される非線形高調波の発生による。高調波周波数のエネルギーは、基本周波数のエネルギーより容易に吸収される。一実施形態において、エネルギー吸収は、以下の方程式によって制御される。
種々の実施形態において、1つ又は複数のコーティング領域287を備えるコーティングされた円筒状変換器600は、非治療的に使用されるように構成される。
上述したように、種々の実施形態において、システム及び/又は方法は、加熱、温熱療法、温熱量測定、熱処置、凝固、焼灼、アポトーシス、渙散、組織体積の増大、組織体積の低減若しくは縮小、及び/又は組織引締めを通して、組織に非侵襲的皮膚科(dermatological)処置を提供する。一実施形態において、表皮組織体積が増大する。一実施形態において、脂肪組織体積が縮小し、又は低減する。
種々の実施形態において、帯状治療システムは、組織を処置するように構成される。例えば、一実施形態において、帯状処置は、広頚筋上顎下脂肪(supraplatysmal submental fat)の処置に対して構成される。一実施形態において、脂肪の処置は、いかなる重大な皮膚表面の影響をもたらすことなく、約2.5mm〜6.0mmの深度で、選択的に熱ショックをもたらし、その後、脂肪層にアポトーシスを行うことを含む。一実施形態において、処置は、皮膚表面が41℃を超えることなく、1分間〜5分間、42℃〜55℃の温度で脂肪をバルク加熱処置に露出させることを含み、生理学的/生物学的効果(例えば、凝固、アポトーシス、脂肪細胞渙散等)がある。種々の実施形態において、帯状変換器による処置は、図42において理論的細胞殺傷率の種々のレベルを表すグラフに示すように、等効果投与量によって組織を処置する。
種々の実施形態において、帯状治療システムは、体形矯正に対して構成される。一実施形態において、体形矯正処置は、熱ショックと、それと同時及び/又はそれに続くアポトーシスとを伴う。一実施形態において、体形矯正処置は、1分間〜5分間、42℃〜55℃に脂肪を露出させて遅延したアポトーシスを引き起こすことを含む。一実施形態において、体形矯正処置は、皮膚表面の少なくとも13mm下の焦点深度で脂肪を露出させることを含む。

- 1つ又は複数のイメージング素子を用いて組織をイメージングすることを更に含み、前記円筒状変換素子は、該1つ又は複数のイメージング素子が配置されるように構成された開口部を有する、請求項35〜42のいずれか一項に記載の方法。
- 前記イメージング素子からの画像を用いて、前記システムと皮膚表面との間の音響結合のレベルを確認することを更に含む、請求項46に記載の方法。
- デフォーカスイメージング及び電圧定在波比(VSWR)からなる群のうちの任意の1つを用いて、前記イメージング素子により、前記システムと皮膚表面との間の音響結合のレベルを確認することを更に含む、請求項46に記載の方法。
- 前記イメージング素子により、皮膚表面の下の前記焦点深度における標的組織の温度を測定することを更に含む、請求項46に記載の方法。
