Abstract
923,112. Cathode materials. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 3, 1960 [Aug. 6, 1959], No. 26903/60. Class 39 (1). In manufacture of an oxide cathode, a layer of alkaline-earth carbonates to which has been added a metallic powder, including manganese in the non-oxidized state, is provided on a carrier consisting substantially of nickel. For example, a layer 40 microns thick of bariumstrontium carbonate, having a grain-size of 20 microns, and containing 0.5 to 3% by weight of a powdered alloy of 70% manganese and 30% titanium having a grain-size of 10 microns, is sprayed on to a cathode tube of nickel containing 0.1% Si and 0.05% Mg.
