Abstract
1,226,728. Colour television tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 1 Jan., 1970 [16 Jan., 1969; 6 May, 1969], No. 28/70. Heading H1D. In the manufacture of a colour television tube wherein a faceplate 203, Fig. 4, is sealed to a cone 202 at a high temperature by means of a glass solder or a chemical binder, a getter holder 211 is secured to the cone, or to the faceplate, or to an element secured to the cone or faceplate, before the sealing process. The tube shown in Fig. 4 includes an outer conductive coating 210 and an inner resistive coating 215; the getter holder is so disposed that the getter coating does not short-circuit the resistive coating. The getter may be a compressed mixture of barium-aluminium powder and nickel powder and may be protected from attack during the sealing process by an aluminium coating or foil; alternatively the nickel may be bound in a nickel-titanium compound so that the getter is not subject to chemical attack and the protective coating may then be omitted. In Fig. 4, the getter holder is supported by a resilient strip 212 from a shadow mask provided with a ferromagnetic screen 200 including an aperture 220 opposite the getter. In a modification, Fig. 1 (not shown), the shadow mask does not include a screen and the getter support provides an H.T. connection to the mask from a wall coating. In another modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the getter holder is supported by a resilient strip from an anode button on the cone.
