Abstract

Electrically conductive cores for thermionically active cathodes having alkaline earth oxide coatings comprise an alloy of composition within the range; Re 1-30 per cent; Ni the balance. The Specification refers to experiments conducted with nickel discs coated with rhenium, to a thickness of at least 10 microns, the coating being produced by thermal dissociation of rhenium trichloride on nickel discs heated to 1400 DEG C., and with rhenium cathodes produced by sintering rhenium powder and reducing in size by successive rolling and annealing at 1750 DEG C to a thickness of 0.2 mm.
