Abstract

739,367. Cathode materials and processing. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. Feb. 1, 1954 [Feb. 9, 1953], No. 2891/54. Drawings to Specification. Class 39 (1). The cathode' coating consists of a fused mixture of magnesium oxide and 81.5-98.5 per cent by weight of barium oxide. The electrodes for a fluorescent lamp consist of tungsten or molybdenum coiled coils and the gas filling for the lamp consists of mercury at 10 microns and argon at 3.2 mms. The unfused mixture consists of 85 per cent barium carbonate, 1-15 per cent magnesium oxide and 0-14 per cent zirconium oxide, and the fusion is carried out at 1100‹ C. The total quantity of magnesium oxide and zirconium oxide should not exceed 15 per cent. The cathode base may also consist of an alloy of nickel, cobalt, iron and titanium, or of nickel.
