811,763. Centrifugal pumps. SUMO PUMPS Ltd. Sept. 4, 1957 [Nov. 19, 1956], No. 35313/56. Class 110 (1). A centrifugal pump comprises a nozzle located coaxially of the eye of the impeller and directed towards the eye, the nozzle being connected to an independent source of liquid. In the submersible pump shown, clean water from an independent supply, preferably under pressure, can be passed through a radial passage 13 to a nozzle 12 to assist the pumping of water laden with solid material such as silt and gravel, and to clean blockages. The nozzle 12 is accessible through a hand hole normally closed by a cover-plate 16. When the nozzle is not in use the entry to the passage 13 can be closed by a plug 15. The suction passage 6 of the pump extends radially from a strainer 5, and discharge ducts 10 pass upwardly through the stator casing of the driving motor to an outlet 11.
