Abstract
1,234,587. Centrifugal pumps. GODIVA FIRE PUMPS Ltd. Aug. 22, 1969 [Sept. 27, 1968], No.46088/68. Heading F1C. A centrifugal pump for fire-fighting purposes comprises a stage 1 for low-pressure, high volume delivery and a circumferential-flow stage 2 for high-pressure, low volume delivery. The impellers are adjacently mounted on a common shaft with the impeller 3 on one end thereof. When valve 8 is open as shown, some of the discharge from stage 1 is by-passed to stage 2 which discharges through outlet 12 and passage 16. When the valve 8 is closed a diaphragmactuated valve 17 opens to unload stage 2 by allowing the passage of liquid therefrom to the inlet 5 of stage 1. A pressure-actuated by-pass relief valve may communicate with outlet 12.
