Abstract
604,178. Variable - speed gearing. KEGRESSE, C. M. C. R., KEGRESSE, A. V., and JAMMES, E. Dec. 19, 1945, No. 34473. Convention date, Aug. 7, 1942. [Class 80 (ii)] Concentric shafts 3, 4, carrying clutch plates 1, 2, are connected by gear trains 5, 7, and 6, 8, to countershafts 9, 10, equally spaced from the axis of the shafts 3, 4. Both countershafts carry identical gears 14, 16, and clutches 24, 25, 26. Gears 16 mesh with a loose gear 15 on shaft 3 and gears 14 with a gear 12 fixed to the driven shaft 11. Either countershaft can be made effective by clutching either plate 1 or 2 to the driving member, other gear changes being effected by operating the slidable clutch members 24. In the construction shown, five speeds are available, one of which is a one-to-one drive by coupling the shaft 3 directly to the shaft 11 by coupling members 1.8, 21. Two more speeds can be obtained by adding a wheel to each countershaft and to the drive shaft. Specification 585,716 is referred to.
