Abstract

780,106. Tractor driving gear. SOC. D'ETUDES ET DE RECHERCHES POUR ENGINS MECANIQUES, S. E. R. E. M. June 30,1955 [July 1, 1954], No. 18985/55. Class 79(2) [Also in Group XXIV] Variable speed gearing comprises adjacent gear units A, B through which pass a driving shaft 4 and a driven shaft 6; each shaft carries four freely rotatable pinions, corresponding pairs such as 7, 8, being in constant mesh. Any pinion on shaft 4 may be selectively locked to the shaft by axial movement, controllable by forks (not shown), of one of the sleeves 17, 28 of multiple disc plate clutches which are keyed to but slidable on the shaft 4. Dogs such as 26 are similarly mounted on the shaft 6 and enable the corresponding pinion of the pair to be locked to the shaft 6. A power take off shaft may be coupled to the driving shaft 4 by a clutch 23 whilst reverse gearing C enables the same number of forward and reverse ratios to be obtained.
