Abstract
569,354. Variable-speed gearing. GUY MOTORS, Ltd. ANDREWS, A., GILBERT; W. H. and REECE, J. E. July 7,1943, Nos 11003 and 11006. [Class 80 (ii)] In a variable-speed gear-box of the countershaft type, the end of the driving shaft 2 and the adjacent end of the countershaft 4 are both supported by bearings 7, 8 arranged at each side and in close proximity tc the constant mesh gears 5, 6 driving the countershaft. As shown, the gear pair 5, 6 and the bearings 7, 8 are carried in a casing 9 which is bolted to the end of the gear-box 10. The driven shaft 3 carries gears 24, 24a, 24b freely mounted thereon and which are in constant mesh with gears fixed to the countershaft. The gears 24, 24a, 24b are adapted to be coupled to the driven shaft by clutches operating on the synchromesh principle. Bearings between the gear pairs are omitted. Between the gear 6 and the counter shaft bearing 8 is arranged an oil pump which delivers oil through ducts 19, 21, 22 to the gears on the driven shaft 3. Specification 569,356 is referred to.
