Abstract

576,820. Variable-speed gearing HINDMARCH, T. Nov. 10, 1943, No. 20252/44. Divided out of Complete Specification of 566,029. [Class 80 (ii)] A variable speed and reverse gear box a has an output shaft c in alignment with an input shaft b and a layshaft shaft h parallel thereto driven by gears h<1>. Constantly meshing gears d, d<1>, i, e, e<1>, i<1>, on the layshaft and output shaft provide for forward and reverse driving. The layshaft gears are loosely mounted and have within them pressure fluid operated clutches f, f<1>, k to render them operative. The gears on the output shaft are fixed thereto. Alternatively the layshaft gears may be fixed and the clutches arranged within the gears on the output shaft. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 22,443/09, [Class 80 (ii)].
