Abstract
569,369. Variable - speed gearing. DESSONNAZ, G. March 15, 1943, No. 4211. Convention date, March 12, 1942. [Class 80 (ii)] Coaxial driving and driven shafts 1, 4, mounted in a casing 3, each carry six hubs 6, coupled by rods 7 to the inner members 8 of one-way roller clutches, the outer members 10 of which are fixed to a drum 11. The latter is mounted by bearings 12, 12<1> on arms 13, 13<1> fixed together by a tube 14 which pivoted at 16, 16<1> to the casing 3. Each rod 7 is out of phase with the others. When the shafts 1, 4 are concentric with the drum 11 there is a one-to-one drive. Speed changes are effected by angular-movement of the arms 13, 13<1> to move the drum into an eccentric position relative to the shafts 1, 4. As applied to a motor vehicle the driving shaft 1 and driven shaft 4 have gears 23, 20, engaging gears 24, 21, connected respectively to the bevel gear 25 and planet carrier 22 of a differential, the final driven shaft 28 having a bevel 27. Thus the bevel 25 is driven at the speed of the driving shaft 1, the speed of the planet carrier 25 can be varied by the ratchet change-speed gear, to give any desired speed to the shaft 28. A one-way clutch 29 may be positioned between the bevel 25 and the planet carrier 22.
