[Class 44] An arrangement for securing a handle e to a latch spindle b comprises in combination a wire spring detent bent to provide two arms c<1>, c<2> connected by a loop c<3> through which a pin d is passed to secure the detent in a slot a formed in a non- circular part of the spindle, the handle having a corresponding bore to receive the detentcarrying part of the spindle and being provided with a shoulder j behind which the detent snaps into engagement when the handle is pushed home, and a rubber or other.resilient washer disposed under compression between spindle and handle. As shown, the arm c<2> projects from the slot for engagement with shoulder j whilst arm c<1> bears against the bottom of the slot. In a modification, the slot extends completely through the spindle and arm c<1> is similar to arm c<2> to project from the slot, both arms engaging the shoulder j. The handle stem f is rotatable in the usual rose-plate k. The rubber washer h held in compression between a shoulder i on spindle b and the end of stem f holds the detent arms c<1>, c<2> tight against shoulder j. Access to the detent for removal of the handle may be had through the outer end of the handle bore which is closed by a removable cap m. Alternatively, the outer end of the bore is permanently closed, washer A being placed between the closure and the outer end of the spindle, radial holes being provided in the stem for insertion of a suitable tool when it is desired to disengage the detent arms to remove the handle. The shoulder j for engagement by the detent is, in this alternative, formed by a bush fixed in the spindle bore.
