Abstract
550,498. Tensioning cables. RANSOMES & RAPIER Ltd., and HEATH, A. T. Nov. 14, 1941, No. 14645. [Classes 78 (ii) and 78 (v)] In cranes, excavators &c. which employ two parallel lifting ropes each attached to the same drum and the same load the tensions of the ropes F are equalized by mounting the top reeving sheaves C in separate bearings connected by an equalizer. As shown, each pulley C is mounted between two triangular plates B forming a framework which is pivoted at A<SP>2</SP> to the jib apex, and the angular location of which is controlled by a link D pivoted thereto at B<SP>1</SP>. Each link D is connected pivotally to a swivelling plate E. Thus, if the tension in one rope exceeds that in the other its pulley C and framework B will be pulled downward, thus causing the other framework B and pulley C to be raised and so lengthen the distance between drum and load to increase the tension of the slacker rope. The links D and plate E may be replaced by a cable running round a pulley pivoted at E<SP>1</SP>.
