Abstract
504,162. Propelling aircraft. DOR. NIER-WERKE GES., and DORNIER, C. May 6, 1938, No: 13597. Convention date, June 8, 1937. [Class 4] Pusher airscrews are disposed' adjacent the rear edge of and mounted on the wings of an aircraft and the airscrew shafts are tiltable in such manner that each forms an angle open rearwardly and upwardly with the chord of the wing. In one form, a pusher airscrew 2 is driven through, bevel-gears 8, 9 and a shaft 3 carried by a pivoted frame 6 which may be inclined by rotation of a hand-wheel 12 having a screw-threaded boss engaging right- and left-handed screw-threaded shafts 14, 13. In a modification a tractor-airscrewshaft is mounted in a similar frame and the two frames are simultaneously tilted on actuation of a right- and left-handed screw-threaded shaft engaged by nuts connected by links to the frames. In another form, the aeroengine, airscrew and driving shaft are mounted in a pivoted frame adapted to be tilted by an hydraulic jack, and, in a modification, a tractor airscrew and aeroengine are mounted in a similar frame ; the two frames have intermeshing gear teeth and are tilted by screw-andnut mechanism. The aero-engines may be placed above, below or in the wings.
