Abstract

507,714. Aeroplanes. DORNIER-WERKE GES. Aug. 2, 1938, No. 22831. Convention date, Aug. 2,.1937. [Claas 4] In an aircraft with two motors arranged one behind the other, the front motor driving a tractor airscrew mounted at the fuselage nose and the rear motor a pusher airscrew rotatable about an axis approximately the longitudinal axis of the fuselage, the fuselage comprises three units, the intermediate one of which accommodates the crew &c., and is formed as a self-contained unit closed at the front and rear by fireproof partitions, and to which the front and rear units, each carrying a propelling unit, and also the wings, are connected as self-contained units. As shown, the fuselage comprises an intermediate unit 2 having fireproof end walls 16, 17, to which are connected at 18, 19, front and rear units I, 3, carrying respectively a motor 4 driving a tractor aircrew 5, and a motor 6 driving a pusher airscrew 8 by a shaft 7. The rear unit carries an elevator unit 25, tail fins 9, 10 carrying rudders 11, 12, and a tail wheel 13. The wings 24, carrying a retractable undercarriage 15, are rotatably mounted on the unit 2 so that their incidence can be varied when lariding or taking off. The unit 2, which may be armoured by covering it with a sheet steel skin, is fitted with partitions 21 so as to serve in part as a fuel container. The aircraft may be provided with a plurality of fuselages.
