Abstract

345,910. Supporting, propelling, and controlling aircraft. ZUROVEC, W., Volkersdorf, Isergebirge, Germany. July 22, 1930, No. 22115. Convention date, June 23, 1929. [Class 4.] Aeroplanes and machines supported by direct fluid pressure apparatus; propel - ling ; controlling.- An aeroplane has tractor propellers e, f arranged along the whole length of the leading edge of its main plane or planes, rear flaps b for varying the camber being provided to enable the slip stream from the propellers to be utilized for lifting the machine vertically or for causing it to hover. The slip stream from the centrally arranged propellers e is left unimpeded by wing flaps in order not to impair the efficiency of the elevator. The chord of the plane normally makes a slight angle with the propeller shafts except at the centre where it is practically parallel thereto. The centrally arranged propellers e are direct-coupled to engines g which drive through bevel gear h a counter-shaft i from which the outer propellers are driven. The propellers diminish in diameter towards the wing tips. The flaps b may be used also as ailerons.
