Abstract

1,251,662. Attaching mouthpieces to cigars or cigarettes. MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd., and R. E. M. GEMMELL. 14 May, 1969 [15 May, 1968], No. 23072/68. Heading A2C. Aligned and abutting components of a composite smoking article, e.g. a cigar 3 or cigarette and a rigid mouthpiece (not shown), are held by suction between a pair of rollers 2 on a rotary drum 1 and brought into contact with the leading edge of an adhesivecoated uniting band 5 carried by a rotary suction drum 12, the band then being maintained under tension by the suction acting on its trailing edge whilst it is drawn around the article by rotation of the latter due to rotation of the rollers caused by engagement of extensions thereon with a stationary curved surface 10. The band is subsequently rolled by a resilient roller 15.
