Abstract
862,676. Cigarette-making machines. KÍRBER, K. June 23, 1958 [Sept. 21, 1957], No. 20008/58. Class 130. A recessed mouthpiece comprises a filter plug 35, Fig. 1, flush with a small tube of relatively stiff paper 13, the plug and tube being surrounded by a thin paper wrapper 12. A double length plug 31, Fig. 1, on a conveyer 32, Fig. 5, is bisected and transferred to a drum 36 to which cigarettes 7, 8 are fed on either side of the plug and the parts 34, 35, Fig. 1, with their associated cigarettes are moved apart and then transferred to a drum 10. Connecter sheets 12 with recess strips 13 of stiff paper thereon are attached to the groups and wrapped therearound on wrapper drum 11 so that the strip 13 forms a tube abutting the ends of the plugs, the resultant assemblages being bisected to form two mouthpiece cigarettes. The recess strips 13 are cut from a strip R and fed to the previously gummed connector sheet material V which is cut in the spaces between strips 13 to form connector sheets. If double length filter plugs are to be formed for subsequent attachment to cigarettes, the step of supplying the cigarettes 7, 8 to either side of the plug on the drum 36 is omitted. A multi-length plug may also be produced by a connector sheet 12, Fig. 7, bearing several recess strips 13 and plugs 34.
