Abstract

971,101. Cigarette-making machines. AMERICAN MACHINE & FOUNDRY CO Jan. 2, 1962 [Jan. 9, 1961], No. 181/62. Heading A2C. Shredded tobacco, to be formed into a cigarette rod, is showered on a conveyer 11 running at a velocity V, and transferred to'a drum 14 having a peripheral velocity of V 3 by a picker wheel 16 having a tangential velocity of V 2 . V 2 is greater than V 1 , but greater than or equal to V 3 and preferably V 2 Cos α=V 3 . Also V 3 is greater than V 1 . The tobacco is held on the drum by a suction shoe 18 and deposited on a second conveyer 21 running at a speed V 4 which is less than or equal to V 3 and preferably such that V 3 Cos #=V 4 . The tobacco is finally wrapped in paper 25 to form a cigarette rod running a velocity V 5 where V 5 is less than V 4 .
