Abstract

661,626. Filter plugs. BUNZL, H., SCHECHNER, P., and CIGARETTE COMPONENTS, Ltd. June 7, 1950 [June 22, 1949], No. 16639/49. Class 130. A filter plug is made by feeding simultaneously to a garniture 14 a sliver of wool 15, a strip 10 of stout paper, e.g. cartridge or parchment paper, that is formed into a tube having a longitudinal butt joint 10A and enclosing the wool, and a strip 22 of thin paper, e.g. cigarette paper, that is formed into an outer tube having a longitudinal lapped and stuck seam 22A. The strips 10, 22 may be fed from rolls 11, 23 through pre-folders 12, 24 which form the strips into U-section, and the wool fed from a roll 16 is compacted on a tape 17 by wheels 18, 19. Paste applied to one edge of strip 22 is dried by an electrically heated iron 28 when the lap joint is formed and a cutter 31 severs the continuous filter rod, which is pulled through the garniture by an endless belt 30, into lengths 29A which are conveyed to a packing or cigarette-making machine. The wool may be attached to strip 22 by adhesive applied by wheel 39.
