- the pivot axis 17 of the gripper 16 lies above the carrier 13. If the gripper 16 is pivoted from its position shown in dash-dotted lines on the left in FIG. 2 by touching the handle 23 into the position shown in solid lines, the thin, curved needles 22 penetrate easily the material to be cut 6 because they are curved concentrically to the pivot axis 17. As can be seen from FIG. 2, the free end regions of the fingers 21 lie tangentially on the circumferential surface of the material to be cut 6 and thereby limit the depth of penetration of the needles 22 into the material to be cut. Because of the relatively large contact surface of the fingers 21 on the material to be cut 6, this is not deformed or damaged. Damage to the material to be cut is also excluded by guiding the needles on circular paths concentric with the pivot axis 17. The distance W between the needles 22 ensures a secure fixation on the gripper.
- the gripper In a position remote from the cutting plane S, the gripper is brought into operative connection with the material to be cut via the needles 22. As soon as the material to be cut 6 is firmly connected to the carrier 13 by the penetrated needles 22, this can be fed to the circular knife 3 during the successive cutting of slices together with the material to be cut 6 held on it.
