Abstract

Se describe un método para la producción de ácido 3-hidroxi-3-metilbutírico (también denominado como beta-hidroxiisovalerato o HiV) a partir de acetona y un compuesto que proporciona un grupo acetilo activado que comprende la conversión enzimática de la acetona y un compuesto que proporciona un grupo acetilo activado en ácido 3-hidroxi-3-metilbutírico. La conversión hace uso de una enzima que es capaz de catalizar la formación de un enlace covalente entre el átomo de carbono del grupo oxo (es decir el C=O) de la acetona y el grupo metilo del compuesto que proporciona un grupo acetilo activado. Preferiblemente, la enzima empleada en el proceso es una enzima con la actividad de una sintasa HMG CoA (EC 2.3.3.10) y/o una proteína PksG y/o una enzima con la actividad de una división del enlace C-C/condensación liasa, tal como una HMG CoA liasa (EC 4.1.3.4). También se describen organismos que son capaces para producir ácido 3-hidroxi-3-metilbutírico a partir de acetona, un compuesto que proporciona un grupo acetilo activado, el uso de las enzimas anteriormente mencionadas y organismos para la producción de ácido 3-hidroxi-3- metilbutírico así como el uso de acetona para la producción de ácido 3-hidroxi- 3-metilbutírico.
