Definitions
- the present invention relates to a negative electrode material for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery, a method of manufacturing the same, and a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery including the same, and more particularly, i) silicon, ii) represented by general formula SiO x (0 ⁇ x ⁇ 2). Silicon oxide, and iii) an oxide comprising silicon and M (wherein M is any element selected from the group consisting of Mg, Li, Na, K, Ca, Sr, Ba, Ti, Zr, B, and Al).
- the negative electrode material for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery comprising the silicon oxide composite to reduce the irreversible characteristics of the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery and improve the structural stability, a manufacturing method thereof, and a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery comprising the same It is about.
- Lithium as a negative electrode material for nonaqueous electrolyte batteries has been of interest to many researchers due to its advantages of high voltage, high energy density, and small self discharge, and is widely used in primary batteries.
- lithium metal is used as a negative electrode material for a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery, a dendrite phenomenon occurs in the negative electrode during charge and discharge, or an irreversible substance is generated, resulting in a decrease in charge and discharge efficiency and a short cycle life.
- the silicon-based negative electrode is the most active research because the theoretical capacity of silicon is 4,200mAh / g, 10 times higher than the theoretical capacity of the carbon-based negative electrode 370mAh / g.
- Patent Document: JP4393610 a method (Patent Document: JP4393610) has been proposed in which silicon surface is coated with a carbon layer using chemical vapor deposition (CVD).
- CVD chemical vapor deposition
- the silicon oxide anode has a small capacity compared to silicon, but is very excellent compared to the capacity of the carbon-based negative electrode, and has been in the spotlight as a material having excellent cycle life characteristics due to the low volume expansion ratio compared to the metal.
- Silicon oxide represented by the general formula SiOx generally has a composition in which the number of atoms of silicon and oxygen is close to 1: 1, and has a structure in which ultrafine crystals of silicon are dispersed in silicon oxide, and the crystal size of silicon is several nm or more. Can be clearly observed from transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis.
- Such silicon oxide is decomposed into Si and SiO 2 by disproportionation at a high temperature of 1,000 ° C. or higher to form a structure in which several nm of silicon crystals are uniformly dispersed in silicon oxide.
- the capacity is only about half the capacity of the silicon negative electrode material, but is about five times larger than the capacity of the carbon-based negative electrode material, and the cycle life characteristics are small due to the small volume change during charge and discharge. It is expected to be excellent.
- silicon oxide reacts with lithium and silicon oxide during initial charging to produce lithium silicide and lithium oxides (lithium oxide and lithium silicate), of which lithium oxide does not participate in subsequent electrochemical reactions. Part of the lithium transferred to the cathode does not return to the anode during discharge occurs.
- the irreversible capacity is larger than that of other silicon-based negative electrodes, and thus the initial efficiency (ICE, ratio of discharge capacity to initial charge capacity) is very low, 70 to 75%. This low initial efficiency requires an excessive amount of the positive electrode in the construction of the secondary battery, which has a problem of canceling the capacity per unit mass of the negative electrode.
- lithium is added to the cathode in advance or oxygen content in SiOx is added to supplement the irreversible capacity, and a method of reducing the irreversible lithium oxide formation reaction There is an active research on.
