UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
\VILLIAM BENS, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR 'lO \VIENER BROTHERS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOB A HANDLE FOR BUTTON-HOOKS 0R SIMILAR ARTICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 29,088, dated July 26, 1898.
Application filed July 1, 1898. Serial No. 684,993. Term of patent 3% years.
T0 at whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, \VILLIAM BENS,L citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Providence, State of Rhode Island, have invented and produced a new and original Design for the Handles of But-, ton-Hooks or Similar Articles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part thereof.
The drawing shows my design applied to the handle of a button-hook.
Said design consists in the novel configuration and ornamentation of the handle, as hereinafter described.
The lower end of the handle a is an unornainented cylindrical band. Therefrom the handle expands outward and upward with an intermediate swell b to its top 0, which is crowned by converging scroll ornamentations h h and a centrally-snpported tip (1, formed by a single foliated scroll. The top ornamentation is completed by single balls 70 7t on either side of the scroll d. From the junction of the scrolls h 7% depends a flenr-de-lis m. Rows 25 of spherical beading e e on either side follow the contour of the handle, diminishing in size as they approach the top and bottom thereof.
A small floral ornament g is centrally located upon the handle, flanked by foliates .e .2, 3o whence extend a raised beading 00 cc upward and downward, bounding the central panels o 0.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters 3 5 Patent- The design for the handle of button-hooks and similar articles herein shown and de scribed.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my 40 hand.
\VILTJAM BENS.
In presence of- HORATIO E. BELLOWS, BENJ. NUSSBAUM.
