DESIGN FOR A HANDLE FOR BUTTON-HOOKS OR SIMILAR ARTICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 29,016, dated July 12, 1898. Application filed June 15, 1898. Serial No. 683,539. Term of patent 7 years.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, EUSTACE OEEEs and CHARLES S. COURT, citizens of the United States, residing in. the city and county of Providence, State of Rhode Island, have invented and produced a new and original Design for the Handles of Button-Hooks or Similar Articles, of which the followingisa specification.
Our design is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which is a face view of a handle similar to the reverse thereof.
The essential features of our design are four gradually-increasing swells and a crest, ornamented reeds, and foliates.
In the drawing the first or lowest swell is ornamented by a small flower CL and leaves, surmounted by upright foliated scrolls Z), which cover the second swell a: and terminate at the base of the succeeding swell y. Above these scrolls begins a radiating cluster of reeds 0, whose tops are arched by converging foliates d cl. Intermediate y and the final swellz are a cluster of reeds e, somewhat similar to cluster 0. The final swell ,2' con sists of a panel 0, embraced on either side by a series of overlying foliates f f, which merge into outwardly-inclined scrolls 7L h to form the base of the crest o. An ornamented elliptical surface k-forms the center of the crest and terminates at its lower extremity in a floral pendant m. Above it are converging foliates and leaves '22 which form the outline of the handle extremity.
The outer contour of the handle, on either side, is ornamented bysingle rows of spherical beads 19 13 along the depressions between the swells as, y, and .2.
Having thus described our design, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The design for the handle of a button-hook orsimilar article herein shown and described.
In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands.
EUSTACE CREES. CHAS. S. COURT. In presence of WM. J. JOHNSTON, IIORATIO E. BELLows.
