UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH E. STRAKER, J R., OF NORTH ATTLEBOROUGI-I, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO HENRY H. CURTIS, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A BACK FOR BRUSHES OR SIMILAR ARTICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Design NO. 29,01 5, dated 3' 111) I2, 1898.
Application filed 3.11119 10,.1893- S l N 1 Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH E. STRAKER', Jr. a citizen of the United States, residing at North Attleborough, in the county of Bristol, State of Massachusetts, have invented and produced a new and original Design for the Back of a Brush or Similar Article, of which the following is a specification, reference bein g had to the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of the same.
The drawing is a View of the back of a hairbrush.
The leading feature of my design consists in an alternate arrangement of raised and spherical beading throughout the length of the brush, relieved at intervals by floral and foliate ornamentation.
Referring to the drawing, A is the handle, and B the body, of the brush. The extremity of the handle shows a flower a, from each side of which, extending upward parallel to the margin of the handle, are the raised beads 11 b, bounded by rows of spherical beads c c. The beading is entwined at intervals by foliates t t until it reaches the junction of the handle and body of the brush. A plain panel 0 is thus formed along the middle of the handle. The body ornamentation begins at the handle-junction with a flower d, surrounded by a mass of foliates, above which, on either side, are similar floral ornaments ff. The escutcheon s is embraced by broad raised beads g g, bounded by rows of spherical beads h h, terminating in scrolls 7e 7a, which support upright foliates e e and the converging foliates m m. The latter inclose, at the top of the-escutcheon, a flower n, embedded in foliates. Series of plain and spherical beads 19 q extend radially from '17. toward the upper circumference of the body and are lost in a semicircular series of foliated terminations it.
Having thus described my design, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for the back of a brush or similar article herein shown and described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
