また、第2発明によれば、前記第1の惰性走行から復帰する前記車間距離の車間距離判 定値は、前記第2の惰性走行から復帰する前記車間距離の車間距離判定値よりも大きく設 定されている。このため、前記車間距離が近く前記ブレーキ負圧の必要性が比較的大きく なるところでは、前記エンジンを回転させる前記第2の惰性走行が行われるので、ブレー キの必要時には前記エンジンが回転し前記ブレーキ負圧が確保される。また、前記車間距 離が近くなく前記ブレーキ負圧の必要性が比較的小さいところでは、前記エンジンを停止 する前記第1の惰性走行が実施できるので、燃費の良い惰性走行を行うことができる。こ れにより、車両の惰性走行において車両の燃費向上とブレーキ必要時におけるブレーキ負 圧の確保とを両立させることができる。

- エンジンと、該エンジンの回転により発生するブレーキ負圧を利用してブレーキ力を増幅するブレーキブースタとを備え、前記エンジンと駆動輪とを連結して走行する通常走行と、走行中に前記エンジンを停止させエンジンブレーキ力を前記通常走行に比べて低減して走行する第1の惰性走行と、走行中に前記エンジンを回転させたままエンジンブレーキ力を前記通常走行に比べて低減して走行する第2の惰性走行と、を行い、前記第1または前記第2の惰性走行中にブレーキ負圧の必要性を判断する手段を有し、前記第1の惰性走行と前記第2の惰性走行とから前記通常走行に復帰する条件の少なくとも1つに前記ブレーキ負圧の必要性が含まれている車両の走行制御装置であって、
前記第1の惰性走行から復帰する前記ブレーキ負圧の必要性の上限値は、前記第2の惰性走行から復帰する前記ブレーキ負圧の必要性の上限値よりも小さく設定されていることを特徴とする車両の走行制御装置。 - 前記ブレーキ負圧の必要性を判断する手段は、
先行車両との距離が近い場合に該ブレーキ負圧の必要性が大きいと判断し、
または、車両が走行している路面の下り勾配が大きい場合に該ブレーキ負圧の必要性が大きいと判断し、
または、車両が走行している際の車速が大きい場合に該ブレーキ負圧の必要性が大きいと判断することを特徴とする請求項1の車両の走行制御装置。 - 前記第1の惰性走行は、走行中に前記エンジンと前記駆動輪とを切り離し前記エンジンを停止して惰性走行するフリーラン惰性走行であり、
前記第2の惰性走行は、走行中に前記エンジンと前記駆動輪とを切り離し前記エンジンを自立運転して惰性走行するニュートラル惰性走行である請求項1または2の車両の走行制御装置。 - 前記第1の惰性走行は、走行中に前記エンジンと前記駆動輪とを切り離し前記エンジンを停止して惰性走行するフリーラン惰性走行であり、
前記第2の惰性走行は、前記エンジンと前記駆動輪とを連結したまま前記エンジンに対する燃料供給を停止するとともに、該エンジンの複数の気筒の中の一部の気筒のピストンおよび吸排気弁の少なくとも一方の動作を停止させる気筒休止惰性走行である請求項1または2の車両の走行制御装置。 - 前記ブレーキ負圧の必要性とは、所定のブレーキ操作時の前記ブレーキブースタの増幅作用を充足するために要求される負圧の大きさである請求項1乃至4のいずれか1の車両の走行制御装置。
