Description
「発光素子」(LEE)なる用語は、例えば両端間に電位差を印加し又は電流を通過させることにより活性化された場合に、例えば可視領域、赤外及び/又は紫外領域等の電磁スペクトルの或る領域又は領域の組み合わせにおいて放射を発するデバイスを定義するために使用される。従って、発光素子は単色の、準単色の、多色の又は広帯域のスペクトル放出特性を有することができる。発光素子の例は、当業者により容易に理解されるように、半導体、有機若しくはポリマ/高分子発光ダイオード、光学的にポンピングされた蛍光被覆発光ダイオード、光学的にポンピングされたナノ結晶発光ダイオード又は他の同様なデバイスを含む。更に、発光素子なる用語は、例えばLEDダイ等の放射を発する特定のデバイスを定義するために使用されると共に、放射を発する特定のデバイスと該特定のデバイス又は複数のデバイスが配置されるハウジング又はパッケージとの組み合わせを定義するためにも等しく使用することができる。
本発明の一実施例による発光素子制御システムは、通常は、2以上のLEEユニットの直列接続を有し、これらLEEユニットの各々は1以上のLEEと、斯かるLEEの活性化を対応するユニット駆動制御信号に応答して制御するように構成されたユニット駆動モジュールとを有している。例えば、或るLEEユニットに関連する駆動モジュールは、通常は、当該ユニット内の1以上のLEEをユニット駆動制御信号に応答して制御可能に活性化及び/又は非活性化するように構成される。
当該システムは、通常は、各ユニット駆動モジュールに動作的に結合されると共にLEEユニットの各々における1以上のLEEの間の協同的関係(予め定め、試験し及び/又は適応的に定めることができる)に基づいて、対応するユニット駆動制御信号を発生するように構成された制御モジュールを有する。例えば、該制御モジュールは上記駆動モジュールの各々に対してユニット駆動制御信号を決定及び供給するように構成することができ、これらの信号は例えば当該LEEユニットの各々の相対的動作特性に基づいて相互依存的態様で決定され、これにより、斯かる動作的特性のばらつきを補償する手段を提供すると共に、斯様な特性に基づいて上記ユニットの出力の間の所望のバランスを果たす手段を提供する。
当該LEE制御システムは、更に、入力端が電源に接続される変換モジュールを有している。上記変換モジュール(コンバータモジュール)の出力端はLEEユニットの直列接続に接続することができ、該コンバータモジュールは該LEEユニットの直列接続に或る出力電圧で電力を供給することができる。
本発明の一実施例において、当該LEE制御システムは、該システムの1以上の動作特性を制御するための手段を提供することが可能なフィードバック系を更に有する。
前記駆動モジュール、即ち本例実施例における電界効果トランジスタは、複数の異なる態様で動作させることができる。例えば、全てのLEEユニットが同数の公称的に等しいLEEを有する場合、該駆動モジュールを動作させる1つの方法は、最も少ない量の光を放出するLEEユニット(本実施例ではLEEユニット313)を常にオンのままとする一方、他のLEEユニット311及び312は、これらユニットの全光放出を最も輝度の少ないLEEユニット313のレベルまで減少させるために適切にパルス駆動されるようにすることである。これは、当該LEE制御システムが、例えば全LEEが同じ量の光を発することを必要とするような照明用途に使用される場合に有効であり得る。
Claims (13)
- 各々が1以上の発光素子と、対応するユニット駆動制御信号に応答して前記1以上の発光素子の活性化を制御するユニット駆動モジュールとを有する2以上のLEEユニットの直列接続と、前記ユニット駆動モジュールの各々に動作的に結合され、前記LEEユニット間の動作特性のばらつきを軽減するため、動作の間、前記1以上の発光素子の動作特性から評価される前記LEEユニット間の協同的関係に基づいて、前記対応するユニット駆動制御信号の各々を発生する制御モジュールと、動作の間、前記協同的関係が決定されるように前記LEEユニットの出力を検知するフィードバックシステムと、前記LEEユニットの直列接続に動作的に結合され、電源に接続して前記LEEユニットに駆動電流を供給する変換モジュールと、を有する発光素子制御システム。
- 前記LEEユニットの直列接続及び前記制御モジュールに動作的に結合された駆動電流感知モジュールを更に有し、前記制御モジュールが、前記変換モジュールに動作的に結合されると共に、前記駆動電流を評価し該駆動電流を制御する請求項1に記載の発光素子制御システム。
- 前記制御モジュールが、前記ユニット駆動モジュールの各々に動作的に結合されたユニット駆動制御モジュールと、該ユニット駆動制御モジュールとは別の、前記駆動電流感知モジュールと前記変換モジュールとの間に動作的に結合される駆動電流制御モジュールとを有する請求項2に記載の発光素子制御システム。
- 前記駆動電流感知モジュールがオーム抵抗及びホールプローブの1以上を有する請求項2に記載の発光素子制御システム。
- 前記制御モジュールに動作的に結合されると共に前記1以上の発光素子の1以上の光出力を感知する光出力感知モジュールを更に有し、前記制御モジュールが前記光出力を評価して該光出力を制御する請求項1に記載の発光素子制御システム。
- 前記LEEユニットの1以上が、直列に接続された2以上の発光素子を有する請求項1に記載の発光素子制御システム。
- 前記LEEユニットの1以上が、並列に接続された2以上の発光素子を有する請求項1に記載の発光素子制御システム。
- 前記LEEユニットの1以上に関して、前記ユニット駆動モジュールが当該LEEユニットに関連する前記1以上の発光素子に並列に接続される請求項1に記載の発光素子制御システム。
- 前記ユニット駆動モジュールの1以上がトランジスタを有する請求項3に記載の発光素子制御システム。
- 前記トランジスタが電界効果トランジスタである請求項9に記載の発光素子制御システム。
- 前記対応するユニット駆動制御信号の各々がPWM信号又はPCM信号を有する請求項1に記載の発光素子制御システム。
- 前記対応するユニット駆動制御信号の各々が互いに位相シフトされる請求項1に記載の発光素子制御システム。
- 各々が1以上の発光素子と、対応するユニット駆動制御信号に応答して前記1以上の発光素子の活性化を制御するユニット駆動モジュールとを有する、直列に接続された2以上のLEEユニットと、
前記ユニット駆動モジュールの各々に動作的に結合され、前記LEEユニット間の動作特性のばらつきを軽減するため、動作の間、前記1以上の発光素子の動作特性から評価される前記LEEユニット間の協同的関係に基づいて、前記対応するユニット駆動制御信号の各々を発生する制御モジュールと、
動作の間、前記協同的関係が決定されるように前記LEEユニットの出力を検知するフィードバックシステムと、
前記LEEユニットの直列接続に動作的に結合され、電源に接続して前記LEEユニットに駆動電流を供給する変換モジュールと、
を有する照明システム。
